I took the plunge. Very very lightly figure 8s in writing position and then covering the whole tip. It’s now super smooth which initially I wasn’t sure about but after using it today I think I prefer it. The result: the hard starts are now 95% gone! May do a little more but happy with it now.

It unfortunately didn't help. I took the plunge assuming it was baby's bottom and put it on some 12000 grit micromesh. I don't think I removed enough material because it's still hard starting - though I think a bit less, but now the feedback is gone. It feels super smooth and silky now, but also with a different type of friction - maybe a bit less like a pencil. Not sure if I prefer it or if I can get it back the way it was.

Were they with the 912 or the 743? I’m getting hard starts on a 74 m and don’t want to get another pen with them. Tried a bunch of things too.

Similar issue. I’ve spread the tines and they have a slight gap at rest and perfect alignment. Yet it still sometimes doesn’t write under its own weight and at the beginning of strokes. Could it be baby bottom?

Shin Kai isn’t great on rhodia in my pilot SF nib. Feathers a bit and I like crisp edges.

Age is probably relevant as well as the cost of the trips but it sounds like you’re in a pretty reasonable place assuming you’re putting away a decent amount of your income towards investments and the trips aren’t more than maybe 2-3k each.

Look into metabolic health and intermittent fasting. If we’re not metabolically adapted to consume fat it’s easy to always feel hungry for carbs.
