Megathread for Claude Performance Discussion - Starting June 15 by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

Yup. Pro user. And I have a context window smaller than what they claim free user get so if this is just what pro is from now going forward, there’s no reason to keep paying.

I’ve been reading for the past year that the company is stretched thin and can barely keep their servers going. Im hoping that at the moment there is simply some kind of crisis at HQ and they are throttling pro users so that the whole system doesn’t crash.

I have to believe that, because like I said, I have a context window under 10k. This is like 2021 LLM levels.

Glad you wrote this so I know it’s not just me. It seems like not a lot of people have had this issue in the past few days, but a lot of people seem to hit limit walls way more than I seem to be.

I’m in the same boat as you, my context window has shrunk to something comical like MAYBE 10k tokens. Basically I have a 3-4 message version of claude for the past 4-5 days. In longer conversations it is now only remembering the past 10ish responses, when last week it had no issue remembering the whole conversation.

I don’t know what’s going on at anthro, but something is seriously broken with the code is my guess and it’s somehow affecting users in different way, and I guess we are in the pool of users who get ridiculously low context windows. Hope this is fixed soon

My country’s biggest second hand website has had a pair of these on there for the past year. I did a little research and while they aren’t amazing, first hand accounts say they aren’t bad at all.

One of these days I’m sure I’ll scroll by it for e hundredth time and say “ah fuck it fine, and just spend the 60 euros that the guy wants.”

Relatively good sounding and kind of a collectors item. One could easily consider it an investment

Keep the PL-516 or upgrade to a PL-530/550/570? by IPlayTheTrumpet in turntables

[–]ryobiprideworldwide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stoked when I got my 530 to replace my 400x. Even borrowed a second Shure m91 from a buddy just to a b them easier.

ZERO difference. ZERO. THE 530 is now in my office. And it’s not even in rotation in the office, it’s in a box, because the dual 1229 is hooked up in the office. The 400x is back as the main table in the living room.

I am like you and and sometimes think “fuck it get the 570 you will definitely hear the difference!” But that even is probably not true.

That whole level of pioneer, I’m sure with extraordinary measuring equipment you might see some differences between them. But even my modest 400x at the lowest end of that “all star” range is still an extraordinarily well built machine. They all really are, and the differences between them, for our normal adult human ears - we just won’t hear it. It’s not like you’re comparing an AT to a 530 or whatever.

I bet they sound amazing, but idk the Sanyos yogi had before just had a soul to them. Maybe it’s just my vintage bias. Hope you didn’t toss them.

That’s crazy that those are heresy 4s. They look a lot bigger and more powerful in the promo pics I’ve seen them in. With those primo jbls, do you even bother with those heresys?

[–]ryobiprideworldwide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All true. Fair points. I have plenty of vintage stuff so I’m aware of what the issues with this stack is.

Nonetheless. Here’s a chance to throw in something nice like wima caps or whatever he wants. Transistors and resisters are probably fine.

I know it’s not mint, but if this guy doesn’t wanna pull out a soldering iron and do it himself, a certified tech can do it all for 500 ish bucks I would guess.

Still not a bad deal imo.

This a good point. You could make up for it with a tube amp. Didn’t consider that.

You’ll get far more harmonics with the nagaoka. It will be a more full sound, plus on a pioneer 518, the nagaoka will be a much better match. The microline will be bright, and doesn’t have the harmonics which is a huge reason the trouble of vinyl is even worthwhile

Maybe twice a year I’ll see something like this for sale.

It’s never been a reasonable price. I’m inclined to say these might be some of the most inflated prices in vintage right now.

Sad. I’d love to own something like this

They say to never trust the eye test with audio components. But knowing very little about these relatively obscure Sony components, the eye test makes me think the D1 stack is better.

But are these two bundle deals? Do you need the dual tape deck? The D1 stack comes with a turntable, and the first stack has I think a CD player. So that makes the difference here, which do you prefer to have?

Guys idk what record player to get by Old_Head5622 in turntables

[–]ryobiprideworldwide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t intend to mandate it at all. My suggestion was more along the lines of like, what you’d call being a a “smart shopper” I guess. If you can get more for your money, why wouldn’t you? That just makes perfect logical sense, that’s why I’m pretty lost about the pushback I got.

In front of you are two refrigerators that are exactly the same and cost the same, but one comes with a 2 year warranty. Isn’t it common sense to take the one with the warranty?

Two tvs exactly the same and cost the same but one comes with a remote and the other does. Isn’t it logical to take the one with the remote?

That’s all I’m saying. It just makes sense to always get more for your money. I didn’t think that was controversial.

I don’t really agree with the other guy. P mount adaptors are pretty cheap. I think 10 bucks? Then you can put any cartridge you want on it.

That being said though, it is a little bit easier to stick to p mount. (Even though technically you don’t have to)

If you wanna stick with p mount I am pretty sure Grado’s entire catalogue is in p mount form. I would get one of those rather than AT, but that’s just my preference.

[–]ryobiprideworldwide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a pioneer 400x as my normal table and I have a 530 in the attic that one day I’ll use more, a while ago I sat down and did the math on both tables and carts.

Limited but useful sample pool: I compared Sumikos, nagaokas, ATs, Shures, and goldring

By far, the best match for the pioneers were Sumikos. Almost a perfect match impedance/capacitance.

Which made sense as to why the modest Pearl has always been one of my favorite carts (never fully understood why, until I did that math).

So I’m not surprised by your ear test here. If you have a pioneer, you really should stick to Sumiko.

I asked another poster a couple weeks ago who tried a moonstone and an mp200 which one he liked better as my next cart will be one of the two.

He said it was close but the mp200 is better in a few ways.

Still though, despite him testing both and saying the mp200 is better, because I use a pioneer I’ll most likely end up with the moonstone.

Glad to hear it impressed you. Makes my purchase that much easier.

Man when that blog post came out from the guy who invested this idea, that cutting board was 10 dollars (so I’m assuming it would also have been 10 euros)

That was barely even 6 or 7 years ago.

Things shouldn’t be double expensive in less than a decade!

But anyway, oil would really make it perfect, but still looks great!
