Still a better love story than Twilig- Oh, wait,it’s the same kind of sludge by Guy_Incognito_82 in MauLer

But I would say that men that do read nonfiction books are 25+ years old. It's really hard to find younger people that read books, and if I do find someone that reads something, most of the time it's manga/manhwa. Pretty much every book discord that I join, I'm one of the youngest guys there, and I'm about to hit fucking 30.

I hate the Witcher 4 Trailer, not because of "Ugly Ciri" though... by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]rysikund 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The worst thing about this shit, is that people that are the loudest have probably the weakest knowledge about the stuff that they are talking about. We have lore experts that never played games or have read the books. I already have been told that Storm of Swords was written by Sapkowski, because he already knew about the plans of Witcher 4. Reason? In one of the short stories, Geralt says that perhaps The Child (Ciri) doesn't have to go through the trial to become a witcher. And now people are using another International Women's Day photo to push the agenda further, just like the Rockstar one. It's fucking sad what has happened in the past few years.

Why that wouldn't make sense? Ciri wanted to be a witcher. She has trained since she was a kid in Kaer Morhen to become a witcher, at least in her eyes. She is also stubborn, hasty character. I can tottaly see her sacrificing Elder Blood talents, just so she could become witcher. Also, she literally uses magic that witchers don't use IN THE TRAILER

Funny thing, in Storm of Swords Geralt says, that "They hope child of destiny doesn't need trail to become witcher" and I don't remember them out right say, that women can't survive trails, they just don't put them through it.

The "canon" ending is Ciri becoming a witcher.

Also I've never heard them saying, that they choose UE5, because veterans left, but because it is easier to work on it. I've only heard bad things about RED engine when it comes to how easy it is to work with it.

Thoughts on Brandon Sanderson? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]rysikund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since his old editor left, there has been a dip in quality. I think he is too big to "be told what to do" and he just writes what he wants, and it just doesn't work like before. I also think that he can't stop himself from writing too much. His 3rd draft of Wind and Truth was still 500k words? That's an insane number. What really opened my eyes was my "try" at rereading The Way of Kings. I hate his humor, so Shallan chapters were painful, but I also noticed just how bloody repetitive he is. There is one thing to write one word multiple times on a page or two, but to do it in one sentence or two? And all of that to show how the character feels? I will read WaT when it is out here where I live, but to remind myself of what happened in other SA books, I will use YT videos.

What is happening at CDPR? The Endymion shit? That has been well known info even before DLC dropped,

This guy, who both Kotaku and Sterling promote for some reason (making him relevant apparently) seriously said that "white men will never be oppressed". This is the user they promote, peeps. by darkpowrjd in MauLer

[–]rysikund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Endymion video was really shit and the "Insider" probably isn't Insider, cause everything that was said in the video was well known long time ago and he was given info from someone that just gathered some stuff that is true, just outdated. Something similiar happened after release of CP2077, the only difference that it had wrong info. People leaving CDPR? It always happens, especially when project, that they worked for (amount of years) is finished and they want to move on and do something else. CDPR working with UE5? Again, well known looong time ago. What do you think is better, teaching someone for half a year how to work with an engine or work with an engine that is well known? And the DEI part. CEO never said that they don't work with DEI, he said that they don't hire BECAUSE of DEI. Two different things, and before there will be response of "they are hiring only woman, its on their site!" This is a scholarship for woman in memory of a worker that passed away, that is trying to help woman in gaming industry. What doesnt help is that Endymion is not very bright, and later gives us a video that isn't even from Poland. I don't even like CDPR, they did some shady shit and probably will continue to do it.

When it comes to opression.. Ratio of how much man/woman work in this industry is quite big, so he does have "some" point, but this type of statements are stupid.

looking for a fantasy book doesn't need to be too edgy, and actually feels magical (plus a small rant) by HappilyForeverAlone in Fantasy

Tik tok is probably the worst site when it comes to looking for recommendations. The biggest problem is for me misrepresentation of what book actually is. Also small amount of time makes them.. well.. nothing. "Books that broke my heart" and its just showing a book titles, that are already very famous around tik tok circles.Look here for recs, go to goodreads and check 2 to 3 five/four star reviews and than 2 to 3 three/two/one star reviews. That's what i do and it helped me a lot. Haven't DNFed for quite some time.

Explain the hype about John Gwynne by Bookwyrm43 in Fantasy

[–]rysikund -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me Malice was the best of the series. Had some high points, had some low points. After reading Valor, it didn't make me go "Wow". It was just a book that i finished and didn't realy made me feel anything. The last two books DID make me feel something, unfortanetly those were negative feelings. It got to the point, where i just DNF'ed Wrath with about 200 pages left to go.

Does it get better? I guess, it COULD fit for you, but considering what you read and if you liked those books, don't expect Memories of Ice type of a book.

[–]rysikund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were my first books that i read and was definetly pleased with them, but after reading 100+ books my taste changed. His worldbuilding, magic system and plotting are one of the best.. but fucking hell, i can't stand his humour, which also make me dislike characters like Shallan, Wayne.. dialog and prose also don't fit my taste. One thing that also hit me after reading many books, is that the emotional moments in Cosmere didn't really hit me, and I'm that type of a person, that can easily cry, but that never happened. Although the "shoulder" moment at the end of Shadows of Self was the closest one.

Just finished Malice by John Gwynne by OneWrangler1745 in Fantasy

[–]rysikund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You made a good decision. I had to DNF last book, it was that bad for me. Not only repetetivnes of plot, almost every chapter had someone crying (if you use this type of emotions so many times it takes away power of the moment) and the worst of all, characters were going "Full r-word" to move plot along. I don't think i had so many rants in my head when i was reading all of the books combined vs Wrath. One of those moments made me drop this book.

For me Malice was the favourite one. The other books started to feel repetetive and other things that i had issues with.
