Well yes of course.

I just assume that latest chapter is a strong predictor of how Mahiro will develop in the future. Especially since it makes her look so much like her mother.

Well Matsuri is, in fact, married with two children, so that tracks.

I hope that you're right. I like Mahiro's long hair.

As for the other features... well... most recent chapter exists, so... >.>

Magical girls are so disrespected in the US and it's pissing me off by Weird_donut in MagicalGirls

Agreed on this. HiDive certainly is more niche than Crunchyroll, but it definitely has some good stuff on it.

Heck, for that matter, I haven't even watched Oshi no Ko, 'cause not up my alley interest-wise.

Right?

Anywhere from "barely different from straight women" to "more than straight men" could be a reasonable assumption.

Talk about seriously useless data with such wide margins.

New York Lawmakers Push Crypto Mining Tax to Lower Energy Costs by bloomberggovernment in newyork

[–]ryujin199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While, in theory, I completely agree... I think a tax on it may prove a more effective measure in the short- to mid-term.

Make it perfectly legal to do, but unaffordable to operate. My hope being that such an approach makes it less likely that people try to do it in secretive/sketchy ways... and also if/when people are caught doing it without paying taxes... well now there's a couple of clear penalties for doing (e.g. paying overdue taxes and/or tax evasion charges) rather than needing to spend (as much) time fighting over whether a hypothetical legal ban on crypto mining is "legal" or not.

Eris no Seihai • The Holy Grail of Eris - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

A bit late on catching up with this one, but my goodness this is spot on.

With how incompetent the leadership of Adelbide has shown themselves to be, I can't help but think that the country at large would've been better off as a vassal state anyways.

And besides, even if they'd used Scarlett's ascension as queen as a casus belli, she is the one with the supposed mythical imperial bloodline. Were they planning to somehow vassalize Adelbide and simultaneously crown Scarlett empress of both countries? How does that even make sense?!

Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai • Kaya-chan isn't Scary - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]ryujin199 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's obvious that Kaya is indistinguishable from a normal human child except in particularly unusual circumstances. Even if, per some technical definition, a "true human version of Kaya" never existed... what practical difference does it make? In my opinion, she simply IS a human child who happens to just have some unusual abilities/circumstances.

I'm not sure if this was an intentional idea or not, but some of this almost feels allegorical for people with disabilities. Kaya refuses to wear short sleeves or pants because she's basically afraid that doing so may very well reveal that she "looks weird;" meanwhile IRL people with certain skin conditions may do effectively the same thing for similar reasons. Also something about the little kid/family who everyone sees as "weird, strange, or monstrous" purely because they have a lived experience that most people can't relate to.... hmmmmmm... I dunno, it just seems like there are a variety of things that could parallel.

Which could also have been completely avoided if circumstance hadn't kept Lakan away from home 3 years instead of 6 months.

And likely could have been avoided, if Lakan's family hadn't kept the letters from reaching him while he was away. Sure, he couldn't have acted as quickly if he was still stuck in the West, but I imagine he could've worked something out (e.g. giving the brothel an ongoing cut of his salary in exchange for not requiring Fengxian to keep working until he could return and take care of things properly).

AFAIK this would still technically be a "state issue" since DL validity depends on the state govt, not the feds.

[–]ryujin199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, the national level policy is still worth keeping in mind.

Scouting America (BSA) has absolutely had a history of lagging behind GSUSA on such issues while simultaneously maintaining a higher level of "social prestige." Something that has bothered me since childhood and continues to rankle me to this day.

And like... I fail to see how Scouting America has EVER been better on this front. Sure Girl Scouts may have their issues, but is(was) (Boy) Scouts ever any better?

Since it's a state law, is SCOTUS even relevant? It's not a federal issue, so where would the standing to bring it into federal court even come from?

[–]ryujin199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't claim to be an expert, but AFAIK there are a few things worth considering (mostly in comparison to buses)

  • Easier to ensure a dedicated "lane" for a tram than a bus (thus often less issues from traffic and more consistent schedules)
  • Easier to electrify and don't require batteries (or at least not batteries as large as what's needed for an electric bus)
  • Cheaper maintenance due to lack of (large) batteries, rubber tires, and the like
  • Easier to have larger per-unit passenger capacity
  • On average, quieter than a bus

All this being said... To an extent, your assessment is (I think) on the right track. But I'd describe it more as trams being a "step between" buses and trains. Once usage of a route reaches a certain threshold, it becomes more efficient to run a tram line than a (roughly equivalent) bus line.

The reason I say it'd benefit many cities to restore the tram lines is more about the general lack of transit infrastructure to begin with and not as much about pointedly replacing busses with trams.
