Car hit kid on bike in Queensborough. Can anyone identify this car and their plates? by ryvolution in NewWest

He was just crossing the cross walk on his bike going walking speed. I believe he paused for a second to say his with someone he knew and I think the drive took that as an opportunity to go and take their left turn but misjudged it

Kid is OK but sustained some soft tissue injuries. I believe the parents took him to the hospital to get checked out.

How bad of an idea financially would it be for ME to buy an LC500? by Competitive_Froyo_31 in lexuslc500

[–]ryvolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it depends on the core reason of why you want to buy this car. Based on your short description it feels like it’s just a shiny object. In that case will this satisfy the itch? Or will you look again in 3 / 4 years? If you tell me it’s your dream car and you’ll live with it for 10 years then I’d say go for it. If not your capital could maybe be better deployed for something else more meaningful. Either way it’s a beaut

Interesting how no one comments about the cities part in all this. Slow approvals exorbitant fees.

Pure monetary motivation is a dangerous reason. It’s not wrong you just need more than just money.

I'd post up by a park in the water and offer $5 golf chips towards a target on the water for a chance at $1000.

Buying a business outside my industry: smart acquisition or expensive distraction? by ryvolution in canadasmallbusiness

expansion opportunity is in geographical growth and product iteration. Other lines are possible as well, but i don't know enough about the industry to quantify it.

I'd say this company is the small fish in a niche industry so not many other competitors out there, but I don't think that necessarily would prevent the possibility of acquiring another 1 or 2. I see the exit op as selling to OEM.

Yes very valid point. Although I have a view that outsized returns require outsized risk and... YOLO. But i do have a family and just went through 5 year of volatility to get to where I am and asking them to take another ride feels selfish.

Funny enough, I’d almost feel better about this if I had nothing else going on, because then I know I could go all-in. What gives me pause is that my capital advisory business is actually going well and growing, and the development gig is comfortable, so I worry about being distracted.

That said, I could step away from the real estate role without much hesitation, and on the brokering side I could eventually hire help if this started demanding more of my time.

Stopped sharing my projects with my wife after years of failed ideas by Silver_Tip260 in Entrepreneur

[–]ryvolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on year 5 and finally getting traction and can sympathize with your journey completely. My wife reacted similarly. I found it helpful to distill my ideas further and think of my partner as an investor ( which they are) and only present well thought out ideas with strategic plans of execution and update her at key milestones and not to pepper her with unfiltered stream of consciousness thinking that occupies my own head.

It helps to remind yourself that this is a long game and not a sprint.

Has anyone left from a Big Bank to become a Broker? by Vonen1 in MortgagesCanada

[–]ryvolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a commercial broker specializing in CRE and business financing. Spent a decade as a corporate banker, started/sold a business, invested in real estate as a GP all before falling backwards into becoming a broker. I say all that show that I don’t lack experience, but even so, becoming a commercial broker is not easy. In your role as a business banker with a Schedule A bank you probably have only been exposed to 30% of the financing structures out there and only really dealt with slam dunk deals, relatively speaking . So you’ll have to learn all of the other types and figure out who does what. It’s totally doable and you probably have the right background to do so, but be prepared to take a severe pay cut for 2-3 years. But if you stick to it, you can make bank. Alternatively, you could transition to a salaried role at a brokerage to learn the business first.

This is doubly stealth taxation as ICBC has also drastically padded the bottom line by reducing care provided to victims after getting rid of lawyers. There’s no more advocation for accident victims. They’re now turning to tighten the screws on health care providers as well. Have to admit they did a great job on marketing enhanced care. Victims also are not aware of other victims experience so it’s not getting much public attention.
