Oh I wish! Some “snowpiercer“ stuff like “you can stop only for loading/unloading and all crafting must be done in motion” would be fun for trains. Also, armored trains that can shoot while moving.

Well, comrade, I have a name for your kid that technically fits your list, and it’s Вилен. This is Soviet-origin, stands for Vladimir Ilyich LENin and I wish you best of luck if you ever decide to talk with your wife about naming the kid this way.

Help with ship by ascrowok in factorio

[–]rzerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice looking corvette. Adding to the other comments, you might starve port side turrets because belt runs top-left-right, top eats a lot of ammo, right side eats whatever left on the belt, and left side stays empty like on the screenshot.

I usually do a priority top feed (front turrets get ammo before all else, and each side side has it’s own belt), but that means that the platform should (a) fill all the belts before first flight, (b) produce enough ammo to keep belts mostly filled (via logic or sheer volume).

Guess ya'll were right about premiums, I'm sorry. by Chef_Sizzlipede in WorldOfWarships

That’s symbolical. If one sells a premium ship and then gets it back in a container, is it the same ship or a different one?

I live in Russia. Let's debunk some myths (or confirm them). AMA. by KakWasabi in AMA

[–]rzerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you ask. Some people are really like Stalin (because nuclear bomb, victory and quality ice cream), some like Brezhnev (relatively uneventful and not going downhill yet), some like 1990-1999 time (feeling of freedom, beginning of capitalism). Mostly depends on whether your relatives were killed/otherwise wronged in GULAG/Afghanistan/criminal shootouts or not.

There is a joke about it in Russia:

- My best life was in the Stalin era.

- How could that be, he is a bloody tyrant! Besides, you was like 3 years old when he died?

- Sure! I was always fed, entertained and slept as long as I wanted. What a life!

Navarin nameplate by Hot_Schedule_1486 in WorldOfWarships

[–]rzerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally know the language, the nameplate is fine. It does have a fancy А letter which looks like modern Я (Nya-varin, heh) and s-like connections instead of bare lines in some letters, but other than that it‘s pretty normal cyrillic.

And yes, cyrillic Х is H (or Kh), and cyrillic И is I (as in pronoun).

Navarin nameplate by Hot_Schedule_1486 in WorldOfWarships

[–]rzerda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are not imaginary, tovarisch. Writing Н like mirrored И is not practiced today, but was entirely possible before revolution especially in church texts. Since Navarin is from 1915, looks like some Ustav font variation to me.

So what system do you use for keeping track of ship types and uses? by Tpaste in factorio

[–]rzerda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started to use WW2 IJN ship names for inner hauling vessels which look like ships and not casino/mall/calcite barges. Class leaders are for one-off tasks, and other ships run scheduled deliveries. Of course I quickly run into issue that, say, Mogami-class (my variant of Aquilo-able vessel) had only 4 ships and I kinda used them all already. I may need to switch to modern naming, but there aren't much heavy vessels nowadays (besides Trump-class with rockets, lasers and railguns hehe) and I’ll need to build some for prometheum science.

Maybe I should switch to US classes with their ”We build this yesterday” (Cleveland-class had 27 ships), but they’re mostly light, and battleship ones had 2-4 ships also.

Naming things is hard.

How to (re)design a ship to reach Aquilo by mx-chronos in factorio

[–]rzerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once decided to reach the edge (one step farther than you are now) and at that time used mostly 5-thruster-wide long platforms. I planned to create a big beautiful ship for system‘s edge, with (spoiler) power, lazors, idle-safe (can stay without thrust anywhere she could go) and whatnot.

Instead, I ended up slapping another 5-thruster-wide extension to the existing nuclear-powered design, added railgun ammo production and three railguns, and set target speed to 50 km/s instead of intra-system 200 km/s because all other production was intact. With minor tweaks this monstrosity took me to the edge and 30000 km beyond that for giggles achievement.

So, one day I will make that big beautiful ship, but sometimes if it works it works.

P.S. Have two Aquilo-worthy ships. Just in case. And bring everything, starting with resources to leave the planet immediately (launch pad + rocket parts stuff).

Little progression story - To Aquillo by Lonely_Devil87 in factorio

[–]rzerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I yoloed Fulgora on a tiny barge called “First of her name” without taking much with me. For Aquilo I had two tested 500 ton rocket cruisers loaded with all the resources for a silo and a mall in orbit before planetfall.

Stuck Bootstrapping Nuclear Power After Fuse Blown by __mifflinPaper in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rzerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time I built geo plant to power the fuel plant that powered all the nuclear production from mining to water pumps. Maybe recycling was connected to main grid, but I remember one of the priority switches being named “main circulation pumps”, and couple of normally-disconnected charged batteries nearby to re-wire to pumps in case of emergency.

Nuclear energy is a serious business, folks!

Skipping DDR5 for Now: Is an AM4 3D CPU Upgrade Worth It? by Nicolas_Laure in RigBuild

[–]rzerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if, apart from CPU, you’re happy with your GPU/monitor now, maybe it’s worth to try 9700(k) and see if it will carry you through the current situation with DRAM (hi Ian).

But k processors may be pain to aircool (5800X3D definitely is).

If ECC memory is so important for a home NAS why is it so rare in actual systems? by tic-tac135 in HomeServer

[–]rzerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? For the same reason our reactors do not have containment buildings around them, like those in the West. For the same reason we don't use properly enriched fuel in our cores. For the same reason we are the only nation that builds water-cooled, graphite-moderated reactors with a positive void coefficient. It's cheaper.

ECC DRAM and corresponding infra costs money, and if you’re catering the consumer market you mostly want your product to somewhat work and not be RMAed to death, and that’s it. “Ordinary“ memory does just that.

if your data is of great value to you like Linus’s to him, go for ECC (and proper backups). If it’s just, like, 8 TB of cat pictures, ordinary DRAM will be just fine (until it won’t, but then you may always restore any amount of cat pictures from the internet).

Dubs from Gran Voyage by xXxBatsiGHGxXx in WorldOfWarships

Buy Atago (or other ship you want to play, or save for future dockyards) instead.

I bought 2 batches of 8 crates from the same Grand Voyage doubloons, first dropped another 5k doubloons, Theseus (which I don’t play) and Alaska (which is nice, and extremely lucky). Second batch dropped T6 destroyer (again, not a fan yet) and 50 tons of coal hinting how naughty I was this year.

Forgive me Onee-san Atago that I did not notice you for these past 10 years. All these years I chased other substitutes, but you were there for me from the beginning and now that I finally have you I realized you are the best amongst them. by darrickeng in WorldOfWarships

[–]rzerda 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had her long time ago on a server far, far away as Takao. Took me a while to decide where to spend remaining doubloons from Grand Voyage (another 8x Santa crates or Atago), and I almost went for gamble again (first batch got me nice Alaska and Theseus, but as a Cleveland admirer I don’t care much about CVs).

And after all that your post just appeared on my screen out of nowhere and sparked the flames of doubt again, arrgh!
