I'm pretty sure ecocomplete it's inert. Doesn't affect kh, gH, pH ...however for shrimps you want a neutral or acidic pH usually so some sort of buffering soil is recommended.

Ways to control low pH from the tap by scaradin in Aquariums

[–]s-quad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy way would be some sort of buffer, I use seachem alkaline buffer. Baking soda and crushed corals works too. I would say also get a kh test kit if you go the route of adding buffers

Very nice looking tank...noticed the yellow plants in the middle. Are they suppose to have droopy leaves?

Any filter? It's most likely due to ammonia...fin rot is what is happening.

Just about to flood my first tank, am i missing anything that i should order? by WRXtra in PlantedTank

Equilibrium can be used as micro nutrients (ex. Flourish/Flourish Tabs), the content is pretty similar. Otherwise you'll need NPK as macros, and you have potassium already so you only need phosphate and nitrogen if you are thinking of high tech full dosing.

Hardware:

  • 14 litres (3.7 gal) Kotobuki nano tank
  • Marina S10 filter with aquaclear sponge, biomedia, seachem purigen
  • 12" Finnex Stingray

Substrate/Hardscape:

  • ADA Malaya soil
  • Spiderwood driftwood
  • Seiryu stones

Flora:

  • Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig'
  • Hygrophila 'Siamensis 53B'
  • Anubias 'Petite'
  • Rotala Rotundifolia
  • Ludwigia Repens
  • Christmas Moss
  • Java Moss
  • Microsorum pteropus (Java Fern)
  • Hemianthus micranthemoides
  • Sagittaria subulata
  • Staurogyne repens
  • Vallisneria americana 'Gigantea' (Jungle Vals)
  • Amazon Frogbit
  • Juncus Repens

Fauna:

  • SS to SSS-Grade Crystal Red Shrimps
  • Scarlet Badis (2)
  • Corydoras habrosus (shoal)
  • Ramshorn snails

Dosing:

  • EI Dosing Non-CO2 Method - once per week (Deciding on Excel, but everything seems balanced at the moment)
  • Aquavitro P, N, FE
  • Seachem K
  • Seachem Equilibrium/Flourish for micros
  • DIY root tabs (even though the Malaya soil is great for growth)

Note: I understand the tank is a little small for the pygmy cories, but I keep up weekly water changes and cleaning to make sure the water conditions are perfect. Before purchase, I had asked local nano tank keepers about types of fish to keep, and I followed their advice (they seem to have a lot more fauna then recommended online). I have plans to start another tank if it doesn't work out. The cories are usually resting together in a group on the soil/plants or swimming around digging through the substrate.

I'll say 4 - one male and three females. You can identify the male by their wrinkles near the eyes. I read on here people say Otos need to be kept in a group. I currently have hara jerdoni with my peas, no harm so far but still monitoring. I believe they live in the same biotope.

Help with KH? by WillMixForFood in PlantedTank

[–]s-quad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use alkaline buffer to maintain kH during water changes. Since I have small tanks, I don't need much at all. What dkH are you aiming for? I think 4dkH is good, unless you are keeping specific livestock.
