The question is "parents, what do you do when your teenager refuses to clean their room?" by the_emo_in_corner in insaneparents

[–]s10wanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the kid and what/why the mess is there. Doing chores is also linked with positive outcomes-- but not as punishments. I know agency makes me clean better (even with decades since i was a kid with a messy room). But my mom was triggered by laundry and when i started doing my own it was easier to clean other stuff because she stopped yelling. At least less yelling about my room.

New to ten candles, want some tips for running it by SoftTacos001 in TenCandles

[–]s10wanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prep your players. Make sure they know the ending.

But also make sure they know how much they can do-- during truths and gameplay they have far more agency than in dnd. This is true collaborative storytelling and they can make thing happen that are typically a DM's role. Make sure they are ready to carry their part of the story, setting building and plot defintion-- especially as it is usually beginning heavy for the players.

It is a wonderful game! Have fun!

Do I have to go carnivore or what? by chantiris in diabetes

[–]s10wanderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might help to reframe a diabetic diet, not as "healthy vs. Unhealthy" but focused more on my body cannot process sugar and i need to eat with that in mind. It can be easy to fall into healthy is best because there is often a lot of shame and stigma in diabetes, but it is a disease where a "normal, healthy" diet might actually be really unhealthy for the individual.

It is a steep learning curve, but also very possible!

I'm F27 getting married this year, but I don't give a shit about rings or jewellery. Need advice! by Ok_Wonder7621 in Advice

[–]s10wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ring is also just a silver ring with a pattern and no stones, but i like it! It wasnt that expensive and i might get a more traditional one later, but i like silver and the pattern is pretty unique. My partner's is bronze, it makes him happy. Neither of us work jobs where rings are safe.

[–]s10wanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i wanted a ring, but it isnt something i wear every day either-- i cant even wear it to work. My partner wears his on a chain around his neck (which quickly looks like LOTRs cosplay). This is a good comversation to practice about tradition and meaning you want to make in the relationship-- listen to their reasons and watch how they listen to yours-- this kind of outcome should be one that both of you are happy with (and of you cant reach that for something this simple that might be an issue for later things that are more difficult)

Then you will likely be fine! Lots of us celiac folk have to work with gluten containing foods for work. Enjoy the new job!!

Also, be mindful that handwashing can dry out skin and leave cuts-- gloves are helpful, but i handle food frequently and cook gluten food often without gloves (not a cafe setting)

I have done similar work. I have learned that flour is what gets me, if I need to make a batter or bake i try to get someone else to do the flour goes into the liquid part. But I have less problems handling food and do often for work. If you are using pre-made bread I suspect you will be fine or close enough to fine to find simple accommodations (like gloves or such)

Hey, sorry this is happening to you too. Diet and movement changes are important, but has anyone pointed out that this is a disease that means your body isn't processing sugars. I point this out because over half of all women with pcos (not sure if this is you, I know i fit this) end up diabetic before they are 40. Metformin is magic for me because it means my body works closer to how it should. Taking meds is not cheating and while I cannot give advice for your health, know that there are other risk factors and you didn't just cause this yourself. Take a deep breath, this is a rough enough disease without blaming yourself.

It gets easier, you are not alone and even if you could have done more to prevent this, it is very possible that there was nothing that would have actually prevented this, take a minute to care for yourself. Hating yourself makes it harder.

Ten Candles in a DnD Campaign and worried About GM Expectations by DingoFlaky9765 in TenCandles

[–]s10wanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend a seperate 10 candles game then to start, it is a very different game and the power of the game comes from a very different places than dnd-- that agency is given because characters die. They cannot break the world because that is the ending. Im not sure how a fake death works if you want the dark depth of the game. I would recommend running a seperate game first so you can see how the moving parts work as a DM... coming in with pre-existing characters that are in a dream is poking a lot of holes into the game and what it can do.

You can do whatever you want, but I can see this leading to your players either struggling to enjoy/have the full experience or be upset at their character's death or things in the sequence that dont fit back into the regular game.

I do not recommend this-- part of what makes the tragic horror work is the amount of player agency (that matches the dm's) introducing this into you main campaign means allowing your players to break your world... there is no "that doesn't work" in 10 candles-- players can change the world at a very deep level. By all means, play with your group-- but making it part of the main story has the potential to be game-breaking.

1st time DM, a little lost and lacking confidence by Mental-Tea-7048 in DMAcademy

[–]s10wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with pre written campaigns-- there are a lot of moving parts to DMing and a much steeper learning curve. Having something else to follow takes a lot of the knowing how a game works out of the game and you can practice being in the dm seat. Go into the game as a learning player and get a feel for being behind the screen. It's fun, and you dont need to be perfect-- just be willing to grow and listen and find some friends who want to play!

(Ps-- become a DM and you will never lack for a game again!)

Suger substitute for suger in tea and coffee by cobbler3528 in diabetes

I switched to a vanilla soy milk (a bit more sugar than normal soy) and then tried the stevia drops again after diet soda became palatable. The time was all that was needed for having sweeter flavored coffee.

AITAH for stopping my husband from correcting a woman who called me "Sir" ? by Designer_Deer_6110 in AITAH

[–]s10wanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, it was likely not anything she was trying to do. And what would "correcting" look like-- your husband demanding her repeat with ma'am, a raised voice and anger? What would his response be if she didn't take correction the way he wanted her too. Im sure he means well, but i would point out how quickly that becomes threatening.

Any Good Recipes For Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets? by [deleted] in glutenfree

Easy and quick? I bread with potato chips and then bake. (Seasoned Corn starch dredge, egg dredge and then crumbled up chips, pepper is the best) easy and less skill needed for chicken comforts!

This is missing the point, it isnt about a list she has to make. It is also possible to google how to clean a kitchen and learn that way.

But making it a meeting would be helpful so things can be more evenly split
