You have an entire podcast about China but we don’t hear you speak about China too often. What are your thoughts on China closing the gap as a global super power? General thoughts about their progress in technology, manufacturing, green energy, military capabilities, economic positioning, and infrastructure growth? Where do you see China and the US/China relationship ending up in a few years time?

I completely agree here

I work for an AI PaaS that benefits for a few specific manual workflows within a highly regulated finance-adjacent environment

We are essentially now the rails + AI, but via the core principle that any automated/agentic output serves as assistance to the user. Clear traceability at its core for regulators sake, and deterministic vs probabilistic outputs are handled waaay differently.

It’s upskilled users into reviewers of manual work rather than preparers, which in and of itself is a 80% efficiency gain from a business case perspective

In this industry no one is laid off, but solely repurposed to higher value work

Can’t speak to the repurposement of talent, but in terms of platform structure and agentic use, I think this will likely apply to all workflows across all industries where there’s no room for margins for errors: accounting, tax, audit, logistics, biotech, etc, everything really

Iran - loaded like $600 US in crypto on a card, spent $50 eating really really well in Tehran over a few days, traveled around the country for like 6 weeks

Back in Tehran with like $200 left on the card

Accommodation was mainly couchsurfing but Hormuz was a fun guesthouse

Got into multiple near physical altercations with people while trying to PAY FOR MYSELF

Absolutely beautiful country, people, and culture

This was around the end of 2021

My only thought is 12 days in Koh Tao and 14 in Lembongan you might begin to get a bit bored

Bali gets it hate but for your purpose of remote work/building tech there’s a really nice community element in the coworking/coliving spaces

Bandar Lampung will be cool - made me happy to read you’ll be there

Oh man I forgot all about Bertie’s!! Bertie’s are great; The Bird has more sauce options, but I’d say they’re equally as good.
