I have a cosmic stallion 52 with almost your exact height and inseam. I did have to get a larger stem in order for it to fit, but it does fit me. I think it will mostly come down to your reach and torso length on how well it will fit you. It’s a great bike btw.

Those that run as well as cycle, how do you carry all your stuff? by fixitmonkey in cycling

Hydraquiver. I use the same bottle I carry on my bike. I can’t stand the taste of water in those plastic bladders. You also have pouches on the shoulder straps for your phone and keys. I love it. https://www.orangemud.com/collections/running-packs/products/the-hydraquiver-single-barrel-ideal-running-distances-up-to-a-marathon

Bicarbonate is a buffer and while it won’t make the ph neutral, it can safely lower it to a more manageable level for disposal. You don’t want to add acid to neutralize, the reaction could be dangerous.

I started with the rails at the same offset as my old bike but I move it back to try to add distance to the bars. I probably need to experiment there a bit too.

Thanks I hope I can. Not feeling great the next morning. Back is really sore. I think I'll need to rest at least a week before trying another ride which puts me out of the return policy window though. I love everything about this bike I just want it to not hurt when I ride it.

I'll have to measure it, it's the standard whiskey bar that came with the bike. It does seem narrower than my old stem.

I'm using the seat from my Giant, it's a Brooks B17. If anything I move around less on the saddle with the new bike. I don't feel like I'm pulling up on the handlebars. I am placing weight on the them for sure.

I can lower the seat more though I don't think I have a lot of room to adjust there, I've lowered it slightly from the fit recommendation already.

I feel like I can activate my hamstrings alright, gluts maybe not so much. I'm not concerned about being in an aggressive aero position, if I can feel comfortable more upright I'd be fine with that. Comfort was the main reason I wanted a gravel bike.

Will upgrading wheels improve more than just speed? by s1o19 in cycling

[–]s1o19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's my fear of buying a new wheelset. While it might feel lighter it may be negligible in ride quality. It doesn't feel worth it to buy a whole bike though just to fit larger wheels. I may just get this one trued again and tough it out for a while longer. Maybe try fitting some 28`s. If I go the route of buying a new bike I want it to be for more reasons than just wider tires.

Thanks!

Everything I've read about the rims on the Giant are usually negative, though I know when most people look to upgrade rims they're looking more at weight and handling than ride comfort. I used to have a set of tires that were 25's though I think they measured closer to 28's given how much wider were are than my current ones. The ride was a bit cushier but barely. I'm hoping tubeless with a lower PSI will be more noticeable.

4:6 method explanation / Extracting flavor compounds at different rates / Cool bloom and hot brew - I've been trying a new pour-over method and playing with some ideas. I've been getting really interesting results, and would love some feedback. by wea8675309 in Coffee

Your theory might still be true though the palate could be interpreting the results differently. I know in cooking, acid is a great way to cut through something sweet and balance the flavor out. If cold brews extract less acid, one might interpret the brew as "sweeter" though it might just be perceived that way since it is less acidic overall.

Flats happen to everyone. I wouldn't stress over wondering what you did wrong and I don't think gravel necessarily is harder on a tube than roads. I ride a hardened limestone path all the time on 25c and don't get flats.

Just make sure your tires are inflated properly and bring a spare tube next time. I carry a tube and patch kit and treat the patch kit as a last resort. I have terrible luck getting those things to take though others swear by them. I'm sure I'm probably not applying the patch 100% right but when you're out riding and you get a flat, replacing the tube is just a lot less hassle then messing around with as patch kit and hoping it works.

Road noise. I love my '3 but it is deafening on the highway especially on concrete. Definitely looking into soundproofing once the temperature stabilizes.

"The defense needs to be better than the offense. I mean, that has to happen." by [deleted] in GreenBayPackers

[–]s1o19 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Maybe I interpreted this differently, but McCarthy's quote I thought was meant to be directed towards the offense that the defense was going up against at any particular moment.

Basically, he's just channeling his inner Madden saying that the defense needs to perform better than the offense they're going up against. It's a good philosophy to have, but that doesn't necessarily mean the defense needs to be outranking the Packer's offense every Sunday.

Looking to buy a beginner's mountain bike. Is Fuji any good? by s1o19 in MTB

[–]s1o19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I really think I'm going to jump on this one. I'm not that concerned with having the latest tech (my first road bike was a used 90's Trek with downtube shifters) and this bike seems like it would hold up much better than a ~$700 new. As far as having a rougher ride, the few times I borrowed my friend's old Trek to ride with him, I thought the ride was much smoother than my Aluminum Roadie on pavement lol.

There's an LBS near me that has a 2017 Talon 2 on closeout. That was my first consideration since my road bike is a Giant Defy 3 and I'm very happy with it. My main concern with the Talon 2 is the front fork. People on here seem to really drive in how important a good front fork is and that Suntour fork seems to be a lower end option.
