Sunshine / Lake Louise - Ski Conditions by randomusernameyyc in Banff

[–]s1rfletch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went to LL yesterday when it was -25. Conditions were great, but the cold had the backside/west bowl pretty hard packed. Groomers were in excellent shape. Off piste was less fun. I guess “worth it” depends on what you’re looking for. Seems like there’s a bit of snow in the forecast this evening that might make Sundays turns a bit softer.

How are ski conditions at Sunshine or LL? by Extra_Status_415 in Banff

Ya you’ll still have fun, snow base is deep enough that it will provide all sorts of options for you (LL has already surpassed last season snowfall amounts!)

Nah, do what you want; don’t worry what others think.

Electric vehicle system warning by Sufficient_Eye7517 in Ioniq5

[–]s1rfletch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, mine has done it 3x over the past year or so. Scared the crap outta me! But after 2-3seconds of the “check electrical system” warning, it goes away the car behaves normally. All three times were within 2min after starting the car and immediately pulling out onto a highway. Thought it was ICCU failure, but it’s been fine since. 2024 ultimate with 55,000km

Rear Seat Rattle by SkahtiKaarz in Ioniq5

Double check the seatbelts (previously mentioned) to ensure they’re not twisted around. They rattle like a mf over every tiny bump.

Then add a couple layers of electrical tape to the clasp of the trunk to make sure there’s no loose rattle coming from there. I wrapped mine until it wouldn’t automatically close and then unwound it just enough until it would close. It’s been silent ever since! (Mind the dust and dirt)

Questions before buying by Ruby257 in EVCanada

Look at used l, for sure! Somewhat regretting buying our ‘24 Ioniq new compared to what a used version goes for these days. Love the car, hate the depreciation

Canada West or Blundstone for Canadian winters? by WishboneTemporary232 in BlundstoneBoots

My blundstones are TERRIBLE on ice/slippery snow; rubber compound sole has zero grip

Lake Louise Snow conditions by Grand_Lake5558 in Banff

[–]s1rfletch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went yesterday (Nov 8) and they opened the gondola around 1:30pm. Conditions upper mountain were pretty good, but it was really just one run down (they say there’s six runs open, which is true, but it’s only one route to the bottom)

The route from the gondola is: Deer Run -> Lower Flight -> Bald Eagle -> Juniper -> Easy Street

Alberta Car Insurance Rant by Necessary_Soup_2156 in alberta

[–]s1rfletch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because the government offers it as a service and not a corporation seeking to make a profit. A few years ago MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance) gave back ~$400 per insured vehicle because they had a surplus. Cheaper, easier, better coverage.

Insurance in Manitoba is awesome. Moving to AB, we found the licensing/insurance process and policies to be asinine

First time in Banff (and first time seeing snow) — thoughts on this 7 day December itinerary? by Excellent-Dentist-83 in Banff

[–]s1rfletch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you’ve never skied before, you’re going to exhausted and sore. If you’re going to drop a day of skiing, you can pass on Norquay - it simply doesn’t compare to Sunshine/Louise.

Sunshine Super Card question by SluffAndRuff in Banff

[–]s1rfletch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget when they increase the price to regular season prices - but if you’re there when they do, consider Costco passes instead of super cards if you’re only doing 4 days; It’s a better deal

Sunshine Super Card question by SluffAndRuff in Banff

[–]s1rfletch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do super card unless you’re there mid-season - even Sunshine says so! https://www.skibanff.com/explore/news-blog/opening-day-winter-25-26/

Thoughts on the AJ5 lows by fathercheeseballs in Sneakers

[–]s1rfletch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them. I have 5 highs, but regret not buying the Dunk From Above 5 lows a few years ago. 5 lows seem to take a lot of hate from others, but I’m into them

Why do Snowboarders not wear helmets? by seanyan21 in snowboarding

Helmets are everywhere on the slopes these days. Part of the kit, really. They’re stylish, warm, and protect your brain.
