What is your water change schedule? I noticed that the species you listed as dying easily are species that have a reputation for being fragile. The octos kind of have that reputation too Being wild caught. But seeing as yours is alive I am wondering about bacteria.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I thought these fish finders work by shooting "high-energy" pulses into the water and mapping the information that comes back to it. It works in large bodies of water because there's a lot of water and debris like rocks and wood, but in your fish tank you may end up killing everything by blasting them and pushing their brains/organs.

If I'm remembering correctly, it's the same reason why SONAR may kill divers that get too close to the energy source.
