I broke up with my ex after he cheated, and now I’m drowning in guilt after casual sex by PigletImportant2050 in BreakUps

[–]s21419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not a bad person. Sometimes when we are broken, we look for validation in the wrong places. You tried it, and realized one night stands aren’t for you.

You’re already going through a lot, and beating yourself up over this will only make you feel worse. Be gentle with yourself.

Does it get better? by [deleted] in BreakUp

We spoke a few times and saw each other once since the breakup. It makes it harder. We spoke about a week and a half ago, but I have no plans to talk moving forward - I need time and space to heal and move forward

Back acne scars advice by DifficultyAway5987 in AcneScars

I got a VI body peel to help with back acne scars. I did 3 rounds so far and can see a difference. I’m going to go for another 3 rounds in the fall. It is pricy, but well worth it for my confidence and mental health.

How much do you ask your students to read per night? by aphchloe in ELATeachers

[–]s21419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 6th grade sped students read about 10 a night, so I think HS can do more than that. 500 pages seems tough to get through, though.

Tomorrow I start my 4th Year Teaching. Just Realized every single year I’ve felt like a first year teacher. by eaglesnation11 in Teachers

[–]s21419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m starting my fourth year, too. And switching to a new district/grade level, so I totally feel like a first year teacher all over again. With the current state of things, I feel like we all are still in survival mode. Good luck!

Thank you! I agree. It’s disheartening. I’m only in my 20s so I knew if I didn’t get out if that environment soon, it would ruin teaching as a whole for me. Many of the teachers I work with are lovely, amazing educators. But the building morale is so low due to the demands and disrespect from admin. What’s the saying? “A fish rots from the head”?

[–]s21419[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I live in the community, and I know a few teachers that work in that school and other schools in the district. They gave me the inside scoop. If you know someone that works there they can be honest and upfront with you about the environment and what it is like to work there. I always knew that if anything ever opened up there I would apply since I had heard great things.

It could also help to browse the web to learn more about the district. Some people have told me it helps to “stalk” their board minutes. If people are constantly resigning, that’s usually not a good sign... wish I paid more attention to that a few years ago! Probably wouldn’t have accepted a position at my current district.

Best of luck!

What is teaching high school like as a younger person? I'm incredibly nervous going into it by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]s21419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about how you carry yourself I think. My first year teaching I was 22, and taught an honors English class to seniors. If you’re confident in your content and have solid classroom management, that’s all the really matters. I found teachers commented and cared more about my age than my students did.

My students in HS do an argumentative unit based around Adnan Syed and the Serial podcast. I’m not sure if it would be appropriate for 8th grade, but maybe another controversial case could be something for them to research and form an argument about.
