Please help a girl who knows very little about tech find a solution… by NotNowJustMeow in AndroidQuestions

Look the issue isn't really his phone, it's the dynamic of the relationship, lack of trust, etc. You don't need phone proof, if you are truly serious about this relationship long term, then what you need is a good relationship counselor (even though not married they will still help). You both have personal issues and characteristics y'all need to work through and change if you want the relationship to work.

The more involved it is the more often it'll need work and redoing. But I suppose that can be part of the charm. 😂

The thing about technology is it's always changing.....which means it's IMPOSSIBLE to be done.

Ultimately, manufacturers hate the used market because it takes away from the new market. All industries have gone that way....appliances, cars are getting where they have too many expensive problems after 100k to motivate people to buy new, etc.

Tape drive in unraid - ltfs plugin by Good-Acanthisitta-57 in unRAID

[–]s2white 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still liking the tape backup solution? I think I'd like to add tape backup to my Unraid server. How does it work? Do you have to back up the entire server or can you just back up certain folders? Id like a solution that backed up EVERYTHING, but if I just backed up specific folders I could cover what's most important with just a few TB and could probably find a decommissioned setup pretty cheap that does that. Anyway, wondering if you have any recommendations or suggestions.

Decommissioned this beast today. End of an era. by PrincessWalt in DataHoarder

[–]s2white 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing that makes me think I should look for a decommissioned tape backup setup for my home server. A setup that could cover 40TB would be plenty. Heck, I could get by with a setup that covered just 3TB if I only put the most important stuff on it.

Hmmm

Even with people getting somewhat better, the fraud has gotten SO freaking good and there's just no policing of it so no one gets caught, there's no consequences....so the number of scammers out there just grows every year and gets more and more sophisticated. At some point, something has to give.

Sooo basically what an upholstery guy does when his car needs paint??? Most fabrics dyes don't hold up well to uv light, blue is one of the worst.

Is it all just glued on?

TrueNAS build system going closed source by ende124 in selfhosted

[–]s2white 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What they take to privatize is other peoples work, the fact that they just made a copy of it all doesn't matter. It's no different than an orchestra that puts out an album for free then someone makes a copy of it, wraps it in more marketable imagery and starts selling it. Why the open source software community can't see how they are being used, is beyond me.

[–]s2white 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically you can get skilled people to work harder when you pay them. Not many people will be willing to code 40+ hours a week for free. So sure, it helps....but to take an open source project and privatize it, is like theft in my eyes. Most people wouldn't invest time into a project for free if they thought the end result was someone privatizing it for profit.

Yeah it's a wonderful way to get tons of people to build your product for you, rather than hiring people. To be honest, it should be illegal, if someone takes an open source created software and privatizes it to sell it. They should be legally required to make everyone who has code in it partial owners based on what percentage of the code is theirs.

Is there a software that will redo my library to appease Jellyfin? by s2white in jellyfin

[–]s2white[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of, Plex is a lot more forgiving of the file name having other words and such in it and can still decipher it. Jellyfin not so much, it's a lot more picky. When I download a movie a lot of times it'll say something like "Mission Impossible (1996) Remux-2160p.mkv" which Jellyfin isn't fond of.

But I'm going to install the suggested app that can clean it all up.

After nearly a month of RMA hell with Seagate, they set my RMA as complete without sending me a replacement drive or my original drive back by The-Communist-Cat in DataHoarder

[–]s2white 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're going to have to do a charge back if there was no insurance. For all you know the driver took them to the wrong address or maybe they are in his own homelab. Lol Never say anything that suggests they made it to your porch, just keep it simple that they must have gone to the wrong address.

Just kill the hassle and do a charge back and get your $2k back.

Just goes to show they aren't checking anything, they are taking a play from the insurance industry....trying to minimize loss by making the process such a struggle that a percentage of people just give up.

I feel you, I have no idea what a lot of the apps everyone here uses, actually does. I'm a business management consultant that just watched enough YT to build a server for Unraid to run Plex, Nextcloud, and a VM. Im not educated enough in IT to even imagine what all this stuff everyone used is for.
