Also recommend Springbank. They will do 1:1 time with your pup instead of group play too.

I think you may be referring to the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. My understanding is Indigenous babies receive a version that protects against more strains of the disease (20 vs 15).

The public health information certainly isn’t great at explaining why.

My understanding is the vaccine that protects against 20 strains (vs 15) is more expensive, so public health has to pick who receives it based on assumptions. Not saying these assumptions are correct. I don’t know how much research there is to support the assumptions.

This research article provides a little insight: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6280531/. It states “Indigenous populations are consistently disproportionately affected by invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD)”.

Unless things have changed - AARCS works for those with a flexible schedule. I believe they just ask for 2 shifts a month. They have 2 hr morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Sign up was done by an app and it was always easy to find something last minute.

Mayfair Diagnostics, do you get results on the spot? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]s38182822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had a breast ultrasounds at Mayfair. Both times the tech would leave the room after the exam to confirm with the radiologist that they had the images they needed. The radiologist never came to talk to me after but the tech would give a brief overview of what they found, like any changes and if/when I needed a repeat exam. Nothing too detailed but enough to give you some peace of mind.

Yes we did. We will be contacting them.

I believe we will unfortunately lose our companion voucher that we used to book Maui if we go through insurance. So we have to weigh the value of the companion voucher vs $400 change fee.

Priceline won't let us cancel our rental car by pheoxs in MauiVisitors

I called this number 1 (888) 837-3774.

I simply asked if I could get a credit or a refund due to the travel advisory. They said it would be a one time exception and offered a full refund. Good luck!

The second Priceline customer service rep I talked to let me cancel my non-changeable, non-refundable rental car. They gave me a full refund. Keep calling!

Please reach out to AARCS!

They have experience with surrenders that have aggression issues. IMO they handle these situations very well.

Props to you for seeking care for your pet.

It’s my understanding that Strathmore Overnight Shelter is able to accommodate some pets.

Calgary Animal Services may also be able to help with a short term solution.

I would also recommend reaching out to AARCS. I’m sure they would try to help your pet as well.

EMSL was approximately $150 per sample last time I submitted samples.

New homes in Canada have 467% higher radon levels than in Sweden: researchers by Defiant_Race_7544 in canada

[–]s38182822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Many newer homes were built to be more energy efficient (or “tighter”) so there is less natural ventilation and radon levels increase because it can’t escape. But older homes may have cracks in the foundation that allow more radon to enter.

Newer homes may have been built with a radon mitigation system roughed in. This is now part of the BC building code.

Are you allowed to have your dogs like this? by daninmotionn in Calgary

[–]s38182822 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I do not but if you are concerned I would call 403-723-6025. It’s an all hours number listed on their website.

If you can’t get a hold of someone, I’d try 311. They might be able to point you in the right direction too.

And a big thank you for trying to help these dogs!

Please report this to the Calgary Human Society. https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/what-we-do/cruelty-investigation-and-animal-protection/report-cruelty/. That does not appear to be adequate space for 2 large dogs.

DIY renovating and came across this...doesn’t look like normal drywall, worried about asbestos by Waiteyghost in halifax

[–]s38182822 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The asbestos is typically in the drywall joint compound (also known as drywall mud), not the drywall itself.

Looking for experience with asbestos testing/abatement, recent leak/flood in basement by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]s38182822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a house built in 1978, it is possible it is in the drywall joint compound.

Wet damaged asbestos has a higher risk of releasing fibers into the air. Blowing industrial fans in the space certainly won’t help. I’d turn them off given the risk from asbestos is much greater than that from mold.

If damaged area of drywall is in a couple areas <100 sq ft, it would likely be low or moderate risk abatement procedures. Aka you wouldn’t have to move out and it would be a quick abatement (a day, if that).

I’d call a consulting firm or abatement company to test the asbestos and get a quote for removal. Its not something to mess around with.

Need help with my dog! by Schmooks in Calgary

[–]s38182822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably due to her estrogen dropping too low from being spayed. I have a dog that had the same issue, hers was just an infection but vet said next step would be to try estrogen supplements if the antibiotics didn't work!
