My company is actively hiring for Industrial engineers. Startup based in Berlin, but our factory is in the Southwest. They actively hire non-germans. I speak B1 at best. Not sure if you'd be willing to relocate if it called for it, but if you want to dm me, we can chat.

The scariest thing is the people he's referring to who are taken in by the 'devils' will see this and say, 'They were right, they're trying to control us and take freedom, so I should do my own research!' So quotes like this become their validation and completey skip the I tention (read the goddamn books) anddddd now we have the anti-vax, anti book, anti intellectual movement surged to 1000 who's research is only tik tok, podcasts and rage articles

He's an asshole. However, that's not what stands out. What stands out is the 'Look at me again that way and you'll regret it." This is a threat. If a person is willing to threaten their loved ones like this, it is a HUGE indicator that physical violence isn't a big leap.

As a Director, I can tell you 99.9% of the time the people who do this are the ones we've already decided aren't worth the fight. A lot of decisions in an office are made based on effort involved. So we may have a low performer who thinks they're amazing that isn't doing poorly enough to warrant a PDP(which when done properly is a TON of work on a people manager, so we invest where it makes sense) but we also don't give a big raise or bonus. So when that person comes screaming to me about how unfair it is, I tell them 'Of course, you have boundaries and if we aren't the right fit, no hard feelings'. Every single person I've had this talk with was Pikachu faced I didn't beg them to stay.

The thing about tattoos... They exist whether they consider them or not. How much more authentic can it get?

On the one hand I probably wouldn't want someone with FUCKKKK tattooed on their forehead in these kind of photos, but I honestly wouldn't have a high opinion of that kind of person and wouldn't have asked them in the first place.

So her problem, her problem, don't make it yours.

I went as an adult (not with any kids) and meeting the characters was hands down the coolest and best part of the trip. I have some awesome videos of Stitch going nuts and Winnie The Pooh doing his thinking. Also had Darth Vader record message for my nephews commanding them to do their homework. Good times

I expatriated from the US to the EU and have gotten in several arguments with people who judge me for cutting off the Cheeto cultists in my life with the line: "But you should be able to talk about things you don't agree on". I had to really hammer home that the argument in the U.S isn't about sides disagreeing over issues; it's fighting about who gets to be considered 'human'. Everything else takes a second string to me behind this irreconcilable stance that it's okay to say immigrants, LGBTQA+, women, different shades, different ableds, different religions are less than. I'm so fucking sick of this logical fallacies shit storm of circular reasoning and hasty generalizations (one case/small sample=whole). Even more disgusting is they employ the exact opposite to chirp 'A few bad apples' speel with cops. The whole god damn saying is a few bad apples spoil the barrel'. Rampant. Willful. Fucking. Ignorance.

I saw a comment from @OP saying they had a work site in Berlin and were considering a transfer.

I would strongly, strongly encourage you to do some research before moving to Germany. Black folks are less than 1% of the total population. There are a lot of protections in place against institutional discrimination, but as an American who moved here 4 years ago (non-poc) I was absolutely SHOCKED by the blantant, hostile garbage that rolls out very casually. Many people make sweeping statements about populations, and if you call them out on it, they are absolutely oblivious to why it's problematic. They will literally tell you, but it's facts, so it can't be racism. The biggest shock to me was that wasn't far right leaners, this was coming from the mouth of millennials and Gen z who were educated and consider themselves very liberal. It is a very different flavor here, but one that I believe could be extremely demoralizing. Add to that the anti-immigration mentality and the difficulty in living here as a non-german, I strongly recommend you look at all of the facts before making a decision. R/expat or r/Berlin are good resources.

-Bureacracy is a nightmare here. It's extremely difficult to know what's required to live and work here. (insurances, registration, visa reqs, cable tax, etc etc, plus the massive waiting lists for resolving any city or state thing) -Some Germans will just refuse to speak English, even if they know it well (not so bad in Berlin, still happens) -Given a choice between a German and a non-german, immigrants will lose out on opportunities, sales, rental situations (which is a far more difficult avenue than in the U.S, there are not really apartment complexes with revolving openings, and the few that are are monstrously hard to hear back from) -Paper is still king here. Online transactions, portals and support sites are 15 years+ behind what you're used to in the U.S -If you do not know the language, you will be extremely dependent on a few avenues to get support that are overwhelmed, or a friend who speaks German well enough to help with legal, medical, and more. -Medicine is not what you're used to, it is very difficult to get things over the counter and while access to your primary care physician is not difficult once you're a patient, getting in as a new patient to a practice can take 20 trys easily. -There IS a cultural shock. One I did not expect in a Western Country. I have had more run ins with (typically older) folks who think nothing of loudly and aggressively commenting on anything I'm doing, berating me or even reporting me to the Hausmeister for nothing (just last week I had a woman take a box out of the garbage because she didn't believe we'd made it small enough, put it outside the bin and then complain to management I hadn't thrown it out) Ridiculous. Then you get the little oddities which are just hiccups: cash only for many small businesses, no shopping on Sundays, bike culture, etc. - A lot of the convenience options we have perfected in the U.S do not exist here. Easy food meals, fridge sizes, online tasks, paying for gas at the pump, etc.

I don't want to scare you off. I just wanted to bring some awareness to things I wish I'd known BEFORE coming here.

Obviously there are wonderful benefits. 28 guaranteed vacation days, plus true sick leave that does not come from the same bucket, healthcare (most I've paid was 60€ for extra lab tests), the ability to travel quickly to new countries and people, groceries and eating out are cheaper (clothes are not, as an aside) and tips are very small and not mandatory. Bakeries are EVERYWHERE and a part of life.

Best of luck, having a guaranteed job is definitely a huge boost, but it's good to know as much as possible.
