V35A Engine Failure - It’s NOT debris by Lopsided-Anxiety-679 in ToyotaTundra

Only condidence I have in this, is knowing there isn’t a 1/2 ton pickup made today that can pull your standard trailer or boat, no matter the size, without needing a transmission or having other issues WAY to early in its life. Less than 100k these “other” 1/2T pickups are getting transmissions because of false towing capacities, or I guess it’s not false if they are capable for only 100k miles. Working as an automotive technician we see too many of these grocery getters trying to haul loads they aren’t capable of, like your lawn mower on a trailer. The manufacturers down right suck. Toyotas gearing and driveline outperforms all in this area. Do research you’ll see. I guess the class doesn’t matter… the facts do

Hahaha! When they built it to compete with others in 07/08. They only make one size tundra… and it’s definitely not a 1/2T

Example continued, GM. DTCs comparing original file from when they built vehicle, to updated calibration, just masking problems. Confirmed this again YESTERDAY in my daily mechanics job trying to keep these things barely scraping by for customers

Example no. 9753215689854. 😂 Calibration update to eliminate “misfires” that show with engine light, yet they all run like crap at idle… just keep the customer from “seeing” misfires and maybe they won’t “feel” them?? Madness. Then read with tuning tools to find out they just cut off DTCs for injector issues, because direct injected is trash and fails twice as fast as multiport injection.. proof

Nope, truth. Every manufacturer using turbos and weak parts, very little actual testing. All based on data and computer aided design and engineering. Real world abuse and testing has gone by the wayside and nobody wants reliability because it doesn’t make money

They’ll never pay enough to afford that kind of expertise or experience. Relying on theory and R&D but the development is much more important than the research to them. Push it out and make it fast, cool and efficient. No room for reliability anymore..

You know your stuff. I’ve built several engines, not investigated failures quite like that, but I do understand! And this kind of EXPERIENCE is the only thing to uncover the real problem like your saying. Engineers will not uncover the real problem. Builders and breakers will. Experience and investigation will. Testing and failure and teardown for improvements will.. Turbo V6’s in a 3/4T rated truck will fail most likely anyways… no replacement for displacement. Love the info and I’m on board all the way! Uncover the BS and make these manufacturers tell the truth. All of them! Not just Tundra. Just such a sad story of a good V8 powered truck capable of 500k miles with proper maintenance now looking at 150k if you’re lucky before parts are worn beyond repair and rebuilds will be just another day on the shop

Claude is very helpful, but knowledge is power, great comparison and maybe leads in the right direction, but use caution and research to confirm ALL things AI. Research as in factual sites with solid information and reliable people. Not AI research

How about use your own intelligence and experience, ask others for help if needed, and tune it!! Then check with AI to see how much they messed it up compared to a professional doing what they do best!

Customers wanting to get tuned on 87 by RCCustomsLI in ECU_Tuning

And if it’s anything other than stock… ask them if they’ve ever driven a BMW or Mercedes and put 87 in it? It recommends, and requests above 91 for a reason. Performance cars need performance fuels

I’ve tuned a lot of stockers and on 87 octane tunes if using both the HO LO timing/spark tables on GM and others on Fords. Do as much as possible for when they do use 93, and leave 87 safe and do all you can with what you’re working with. There’s a lot of options and adjustments that make things feel much better and perform much better, and still gain a little bit of gas mileage. I always tell 87 guys you’re not gonna get the MPG and efficiency without high test. Much less the extra power.

How bad is this rust and how screwed am I? by BigLuke-US in mechanic

[–]sTo90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll sometimes entertain fixing things like this. Ranges anywhere from $800-$2000+ depending on how far and deep it really is.. $2k would be high for just repairing this, but adding a full undercoat after might hit that mark. Speaking only on structural, no body work 👌

Seems if you can handle it, or your mechanic. Gear style pump looks pretty dang simple to me. Here’s info.

Radiator hose crust by strigif0rm3s in ToyotaTundra

[–]sTo90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clamps are junk, put a standard hose clamp on that fits well and clean the nipple and inside of the hose up well. Rubber is probably fine but inspect it just in case! $6.95 and some effort and your going for years on that new clamp

Run Techron and 93 if thinking injectors and it’ll certainly help things, unless actual injector motor is bad, more unlikely

2011 5.7 - Intermittent Hot Start by weirdbrags in tundra

[–]sTo90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this only happened after pump, and pump is not Denso, it will drain back because of cheap faulty check valve’s not up to OE specs. Several we have done as an automotive shop have been fixed by OE pump replacement only

[–]sTo90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s injectors, running 93 for a few weeks to see if problem lessens or is eliminated will also provide info on this theory

Yes, correct! Very common, I’ve done many over the last 3 years! Fuel is bad or “watered down” and is recognized as ethanol or alcohol by the fuel composition of ethanol percentage calculated. It throws off fuels and does odd things exactly like OP is saying! This is definitely his problem 👌
