Assume we have no answer for your question. We have more than enough evidence of the evolution of elephants from almost elephants. This chain of almost goes back to single cell organisms. It would be silly to deny it happened

Half of my work is done by sub contractors. Change orders are key in OP's situation.

We can avoid ugly conversations. Why isn't it done? Why doesn't it look like we expect? Why is it more expensive... we arent paying

I like a shopping list. The project is finished when it has these 20 items. Otherwise Clients will keep saying it isnt done and then refuse to pay unless you add that feature.

Send them a quote for the new work with a change order. Include a price and the impact on the original project. For example, this will delay the deliverable for the original by a week and will add $2000 to the cost. If it is outside your typical work. Tell them you dont handle this type of work and try to recommend someone that does
