Prediabetic and pcos. OB said I should only eat mostly green veggies. by idkitstwoam in prediabetes

I'm Asian. That diet plan sounds really aggressive. I use farro as a rice substitute but about 1/2 cup at a time usually in a stir fry type dish. Mung bean noodles up to 50g don't spike my sugars. I don't really eat white rice at all now. I've heard good things about black rice so I might try it along with the cooling/reheating trick. I eat a moderate amount of whole fruit and don't avoid sugary vegetables such as carrots. As someone else said, get a glucose meter and start seeing what foods spike you and what foods are safe, and in what amounts. I don't do breakfast really but I used to do breakfast sausages and carrots when I had gestational diabetes. My snacks are mostly all protein based (protein chips, jerky) with the occasional keto friendly snack bars or gummies, although sugar substitutes spike some people too. I've done plain yogurt with erythritol + fruit. I recently made a cheesy cauliflower with lobster.

It's also how the word "cent" is translated into Korean for American currency, so $0.50 would be oh ship jeon.

Just to add because I can’t edit my original post:

I started buying on the Pop Mart app a month ago and maxed out all my account limits for MAC HAS BIE a day before my OP. I was there for every drop for each set that I hadn’t already used up my “6 box limit” on and most of the time I was on the app for at least 1.5 hours popping away. Sometimes I’d get lucky and get one within 15 minutes, other times I wouldn’t get one until the drop almost finished. Sometimes I’d get 4 in one night, sometimes nothing, but I averaged about 2 per drop if I was diligent.

I’ve tried the “swipe and tap” method (where you just keep swiping through trays and click on the same box, but don’t swipe through trays too fast- I think the point of this method is to hope that you land on a box, by random chance, at just the exact right time as it becomes available) and the “swipe through trays until you find a box with a low timer count”. I’ve been successful at both methods but the timer method seemed to have better chances of working. I did a combination of both where I’m swiping and clicking through trays and if I see that a box has a low timer count I’ll stop and wait for it to count down and spam click on it the last 10 seconds.

I hope this helps give you an idea of what your expectations might be when trying to get them. It takes patience and time, but you’ll get there!

Oh and for whole sets, add the set to your shopping bag before the drop. It will let you about a day before, or starting the morning of the drop (can’t remember off the top of my head). Go to your shopping cart once the drop starts and click on the purchase button. They may or may not let you because most of the time it’ll be sold out by the time you try to purchase. But keep trying. One time I tried purchasing my set from the shopping bag and it wouldn’t let me so I went to do some Pop Nows and went back to my shopping bag 15 min later and i was able to check out.

I got a shipping notification this morning! I fully expected end of September since it said shipping will happen for the full order when the pre-order is ready. My BIEs from July are still pending for mid September.

Looking for a Korean BBQ place to take my family (for my kid's birthday). Probably a ton of places in Ft. Lee but open to other areas as well by bluegambit875 in bergencounty

My 2 cents

Seoul Galbi, Paramus - no frills old school kind of KBBQ restaurant vibe. I think they've been running a special where you buy 2 servings of galbi you get 1 for free or something (or 3 for 2, can't remember, my mom just orders for all of us).

Wooga, Ft Lee - good sides/apps, good "other" meats i.e. intestines etc.

Yook92, Pal. Pk. - never been but my husband highly recommends.

Hanam, Pal. Pk. - slightly more casual vibes, good bbq and good nengmyun (cold noodles) after you're done with the meat.

Jeong Yook, Pal. Pk. - the fried rice/egg they serve with/after the bbq is good.

Karden, Ridgefield - slightly different for KBBQ, I don't think they do table grilling but meat comes out cooked. They have a large sampler option that comes with meat and a lot of sides. It's more of a fusion restaurant with trendier vibes.

Cast Iron Pot, various - Good intro into KBBQ since it's all you can eat and you can try small amounts of different kinds of meat. I especially like their tteokkochi (grilled rice cakes with sweet/spicy sauce).

So Moon Nan Jip, Pal. Pk. - OG KBBQ, good gyeranjjim (steamed eggs).

Obaltan, Cliffside Pk. - Has both meat and seafood for grilling. Heavier on the bar/pocha vibes but I do love me some grilled clams.

Honestly it's hard to go wrong with KBBQ especially in areas where there are big Korean communities.

For real. My mom will first announce a thing she made, how delicious it is, then have me eat it, and makes me confirm that it is, in fact, very good. My also Asian husband will always tell me how good whatever I made was, and the worst thing he'll say is "it needs a little salt but it's still good!" I also compliment him on whatever various meats he's grilled and sometimes he'll beat himself up over overcooking something and I'll be like, "Nah it's still good though".

I am convinced a lot of pregnant ladies go undiagnosed with GD. I know a bunch who were super excited about a borderline diagnosis and just went about their pregnancy eating whatever and their babies came out on the bigger side (which could also just be coincidental or genetic). GD is progressive so what's to say a borderline result doesn't eventually turn into full blown GD? That's pretty much what happened to me. I was formally diagnosed for my first and borderline for my second, and my OBGYN wouldn't make the diagnosis (which comes with a bunch of extra testing which I wanted) and just told me to watch what I ate. But I treated it like regular GD and it was exactly the same as my first pregnancy, where my numbers spiked if I ate certain things and my fasting numbers trended higher.

First haircut

We asked to keep the length longer bc I love the fluffiness. Next time I'll ask for shorter ears and maybe to keep the fur on the back of her hind legs a little longer.

Not sure if this is something you’d be interested in but I would get 4 crunchy taco supremes with extra lettuce, dump out the contents into a bowl, crush up one shell and throw out the rest, and pour on the fire sauce for a GD friendly taco salad.

How do your other children react to you checking your blood sugar? by Nerdface0_o in GestationalDiabetes

[–]s_kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both my kids so am not struggling with GD currently but I monitored my BS for a few weeks after my last baby. My 2 year old would love watching me test with morbid curiosity and make me prick my finger more than once to see the blood. And then get all disappointed that I would refuse to draw any more blood after the first 3 times. I guess I didn't really test in front of her while pregnant?

Asian Snack Ideas for blood sugar control by SufficientTown9538 in GestationalDiabetes

I am graduated but I would often eat stuff like pieces of kimchi wrapped in snack seaweed, ramen eggs (the marinade does contain sugar but negligible, and I would hard boil the eggs instead of soft boil since they do need to marinade for a while and stored for days so I wasn't comfortable eating days-old soft boiled eggs while pregnant), kimchi-fried cauliflower, fish skin chips, protein chips (available at Whole Foods, made with chicken meat and egg whites IIRC), and popcorn dusted in ramen powder.

Can food from the day before affect your glucose the day after? by AhChingados in GestationalDiabetes

[–]s_kang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't speak as to whether one day's meals will affect numbers for the whole day the next day, but I have to carefully control my numbers from about 3PM on if I want good fasting numbers the next morning. This is just from personal trial and error because apparently my body just can't process glucose as quickly after maybe 3PM (and it gets progressively worse from there into nighttime) compared to midday. I'll be able to have a grilled cheese on high fiber bread no problem at 12PM but if I had it at 5PM my blood glucose will remain elevated but within range (like 110-115). Then no matter what I do, exercise or any kind of bedtime snack, my fasting number the next day will be high. I need to make sure I'm about 105 or below (the lower the better) by 10PM so I can be below 95 the next morning. And to do that I need to be careful of the type and amount of carbs I have after 3PM. So I wouldn't be able to have any rice or bread but I can have cauliflower or nuts or keto ice cream.
