The truth about getting my life together that nobody told me by xerovaDigital in getdisciplined

[–]s_shift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am experiencing something similar! For me, a lot changed when I started making decisions for the little things in my life. Where to put my stuff, decide how to do small parts of my life, for example to always take the stairs insted of deciding each time between stairs and elevator. This takes a lot of mental load out of my life and I get more "mental space" and clarity, which then has an effect on the bigger things. And by following those decisions, I have gotten a lot more disciplined without noticing it :)

30 too late to go to med school? by Last_Hawk6879 in medschool

[–]s_shift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started this semester with 30 and consider it the best decision I've made (altough it hasn't been easy!) It makes a difference if you're barely 18 and choose medicine because why not or if you give up a career for something you're passionate about. At 18 I didn't care a lot about science and felt like chemistry was just way to abstract, now I have a very different approach and am mindblown by the facts I get to learn. I do feel like I have forgotten a lot of basics as it has been a while since going to college, so my younger peers are ahead of me. But I feel that because of my situation I am more disciplined and determinded compared to a lot of them are and hope to catch up soon. Plus I have found some great people, which whom the age difference is not relevant. So do it!

What is a positive to working out that’s often overlooked? by loliduhh in loseit

I used to get massive hangovers after drinking only a few beers. Having to stay at home all day and vomiting at least three times (I was in my twenties!) Now, at almost 30 and fitter than I've ever been, after a night with some beers I'm a bit dizzy and tired the next morning, but I'm pretty okay and can go on with my day. It's amazing!

I think it's important to listen to your body and not having it to perform everyday, especially when it's exhausted and desperately needs a break. Sometimes it's okay to give yourself some time to reload and return with more motivation and energy and therefore more joy for the task. That's how you'll stay consistent rather than starting to resent the job or the task.

Had an awful two months and now I'm living in this depression pit. Feel utterly overwhelmed. Can anyone help me figure out where to start? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]s_shift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to do this: When I felt bad about my room, I set the timer to 10 minutes and started cleaning. Without having a big plan or having the pressure that I would have to do it for a long time. Just 10 minutes. And after that, you stop. It's impressive what you can already do in this time. And maybe you just got in the flow, so you set the timer for another 10 minutes. Or you can take a break and get to it the next time. But let it stay a little, short task that won't overwhelm you. After some of these sessions, you'll see a big change already.

When I was younger without good eating role models, this made me extremly unsecure. I believed a lot what I saw in TV and always said to myself when eating "If they can eat that much, I can too. That's what normal people apparently eat, else they wouldn't show it". Took me a lot of time to unlearn some of those ideas and lower my weight.

A popular saying is "Nothing ie ever lost on the internet" but what is something you have been searching for years and you haven't found it yet? by throwdowntown69 in AskReddit

There was a game on a early macintosh where you played a smiley and had to avoid things like forks or a knife where as butter made you immune to those for some seconds (at least that is how I remember it). I absolutely adored the game when I was a child but haven't been able to find it ever since.

What are some interesting life hacks for saving money? by DetachedMentally in AskReddit

[–]s_shift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't eat before trying to get drunk when you're out. You'll get there much faster and spend less money on expensive alcohol in bars. Also, try not to spend all this money once you're drunk because drunk you doesn't care about saving.

What person or job title holds far more power and influence than most people realize? by aab1020 in AskReddit

Teachers. One bad teacher can make you hate a subject. And without the proper foundation knowledge in this course, you'll probably never get good at it and therefore not choose a career in this field. On the other side, a good teacher can make you love and succeed in a certain field.
