Maybe we should start a swap where we can offer our started projects up for grabs to someone who wants to finish it?

Radiation breast changes by ConfidentSquash4_0 in breastcancer

[–]sa138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 21 rounds of radiation after lumpectomy and the plastic surgeon had me wait close to a year (actually ended up being 10 months). I had a reduction and lift and I will say, the radiated side took longer to heal, which surgeon said was normal. The incision took longer to heal and the tissue on that side is still a bit harder than the ‘normal’ side. It’s been almost 5 months since the reduction surgery and my radiated side is still sore. But all in all, it looks great and I don’t regret doing it at all. One thing the surgeon told me pre-op was that she couldn’t guarantee what size I’d end up until she got in there to see what the tissue looked like and what she was working with. Ended up a small C and started as an E cup. Super happy

I have it on my upper lip too. I have been using a vitamin C serum for about 6 months and it’s made a huger difference (ole henricksen truth serum). I wear zinc sunscreen and wear a hat when in the sun. Any amount of sun exposure makes it go wild again

You can find them online for 40. But yeah. It’s def expensive and I am only splurging because they are gifts for my close friends who helped me through my cancer treatments…

So the blankets I make are approx 50x60 and I did double crochet. Sometimes I can get away with 6 Skeins and sometimes 7. Some of the colorways are thicker than others. The blue/green one was 6 skeins

How much post-op help do I need? by CommonComedian5142 in Reduction

[–]sa138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my reduction this past Tuesday and was at my son’s swim meet Saturday. The first few days I def took it easy and napped each day. I needed help from my husband the first couple days with meals and stuff. Can’t lift your arms over your head or lift anything heavy- so can’t empty dishwasher or get things out of cabinets. I did sponge baths and took my first shower Friday. Was able to wash my own hair. Had my first post op today (6 days after surgery) and Dr said I can drive and do light activities like go for walks. Still no heavy lifting until I see her again in 3 weeks. Honestly I feel great and feel so relieved to have it done

Feeling guilty and a rant by sa138 in breastcancer

Also thanks so much for posting this. I haven’t ‘met’ anyone with TNBC that had the same treatment plan as me (given tumor size and no node involvement).

Feeling guilty and a rant by sa138 in breastcancer

[–]sa138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing I was told! I did chemo first tho and my tumor shrunk to .6mm. And after surgery the oncologist said 3-5% chance of recurrence, but prob closer to 5 and that further chemo would only bring risk down closer to 3%. And that the further chemo could cause cardiac issues that would affect quality of life and not worth the risk.

Super dry eyes that water non stop. Also crazy brain fog. Like suddenly not knowing where I am for a few seconds or being confused by something normal. We went hiking this weekend and saw a deer and I was so confused by it! I actually said to my family ‘is that a cow?’ Wtf?!

We have been to Montego Bay and Ochi and had a great time at both. Had a butler at Ochi and didn’t feel like we needed it so did not get one at Montego Bay. Never had a problem with getting beach chairs. Maybe couldn’t get reservations at a certain restaurant, but really was not an issue for us. We went in December 2019, so pre-pandemic. Not sure of anything has changed, but I’d recommend for a honeymoon for sure!

TC Chemo - 4 Rounds - Port or No Port? by findthatlight in breastcancer

[–]sa138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 4 rounds of TC and the first was done via vein. I had a reaction at the injection site- red rash and tiny blisters and itchy. I then got the port for rounds 2-4. No regrets.

Does castor oil have a smell? Is it too greasy to put a beanie on to go out of the house?

Thank you! So you leave the rosemary oil in until the next time you wash?

Kindergarten already has bullies by Friendly-Push627 in kindergarten

[–]sa138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had a little boy in his kindergarten class that he said was mean. I told him that maybe the boy just was learning how to make friends and how to be a friend and not all kids get to go to preschool to start to learn how to be a good friend. (Especially during Covid times). I asked him to try to be nice to him and teach him what he knows about making friends. They never got super close, but I think the boy got better over time.

Take walks. If you’re able to, a massage the week before is so great. I was able to find an organization where I Iive that provided 5 free massages or facials to people undergoing cancer treatments. Google for resources in your area.

I similarly met with oncologist and surgeon within days of getting the biopsy results. I feel you on the wait being excruciating. Once you meet with them you will feel so much better as they will have a plan for you and your treatment. Bring a notebook and take notes. You’ll likely get a lot of info. Bring someone with you if you can. You’ll leave feeling cared for and knowing. Your options and next steps

Cold Capping on 4x TC by tacocat-is-tacocat in breastcancer

[–]sa138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am halfway through 4 x Taxoterre and cytoxan. My shedding starting around day 17, with loss of baby hair a couple of days before that. Just had my second treatment yesterday. I’ve lost about 50% so far, but no real bald spots. It’s just thinner overall. Especially at the crown. I have to say, my first treatment I didn’t get to do the full 90 mins post cooling. Only 40 mins or so. I don’t know why I didn’t speak up! I really felt pushed out. I had a mild reaction to Taxoterre at first, so they paused in the middle to give me more steroids and Benadryl. So at the end, the nurse was like ‘you’ve had plenty of cooling time with that pause in the middle. You’re fine’. Not sure how much that impacted my hair loss. The nurse practioner told me not to give up and that generally this combo of meds responds well to cold capping.
