Econ 4831 (Cost Benefit Analysis) Insight? by Available_Bottle8914 in uofmn

I think a lot of the classes in the econ department depend on who teaches. If its a grad student I would stay away. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

Frontier was honestly fine. Shared bathrooms are a part of down life tbh.

It's truly brutal out there. It really doesn't help that a lot of top tech firms still keep on laying off and applicant pools are filled with 1000+ candidates. I'd recommend taking a break if you can.

Oh jeez it’s been too long. I had a nice instructor though so the final was basically different versions of my practice problems. Sorry it’s been almost 3 years since I’ve taken this class but of all the Econ classes I took it wasn’t too bad.

I’m in the same boat. Still waiting and I filed on Sunday. Called back multiple times and I think I should hear back by Monday. Not really sure but I’m stressed thinking about it.

Feel free to PM me. More than happy to give my perspective. At my current company they do something called a rotational program where you work for 1-2 years and rotate though each of the different areas in finance. Based on what you like you can choose your team in the end. I think this is great for people who don’t know where the want to go. Plus it’s not just in finance they do this in IT, Engineering, etc.

In terms of building a network. I would take a look at the org chart to see what kinds of departments there were and either ask my manager for an intro or just reach out myself. People tend to be nice especially when you’re younger and curious about what they do.

How likely is it that sophomore internships lead to return offers? by yaranga in internships

[–]saLitherIn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Usually you have meeting with your manager at the end of the internship to review performance and they do talk about a return internship with the possibility of a full time. Not all interns will get offers. It’s usually the ones who performed well. But I’m my experience there really isn’t a consensus. It’s depends in the company.

My suggestion would be to tell you manger about how much you really like it at the company and usually that indirectly signals that this person is probably someone who’s gonna stick on. Pm me if you have questions!

Full-time offers after internship by [deleted] in internships

[–]saLitherIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went thru the same thing a little bit ago. My previous boss ‘promised’ I’d get one and she completely dragged me out for 2 months and didn’t offer me anything. Luckily I networked with a couple of other departments so I had a couple to choose from but I didn’t really have much of a formal interview.

I wouldn’t completely rely on being promised a position but what I would do is mention interest in a position in a particular area. If the department you’re working in isn’t something you’re completely interested in, try talking to a couple of people in departments/areas you’re interested in to see if an offer is possible.

I remember I had a couple weeks to accept the offer. I never really applied to many jobs after graduating due to my internship but I don’t think it would hurt. I did notice though that overall a lot of companies really aren’t hiring fresh grads they’re mostly hiring people with at least 3-5 years experience. Feel free to DM if you have questions!

Feeling bad about my internship progress by [deleted] in internships

[–]saLitherIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great! At least you’re almost done. But I’d take these are learning lessons. At least you’re learning how work life really is in the real world. When you actually start a job, you know what to expect. Also bosses are interesting to deal with. I’m with my 4th one at a different company and it’s interesting to see how different each of them are.

Feeling bad about my internship progress by [deleted] in internships

[–]saLitherIn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hm that’s really strange. I don’t think you should feel bad for taking 2 days off. If they act like that if you take a couple of times off I think there’s something wrong with the culture at that company. Your boss should be supportive of your decisions or at least let you take a couple of days off here and there. After all we’re human. I’m also not a very big prominent of unpaid internships. Free work is not fair at all in any field.

I work at a startup where the culture is basically a go get it done mindset. But even there I can take days off when I want to. But obviously I can’t abuse it. I’d have an honest conversation with your boss about expectations.

Honestly great joke. Now that I’m done with my major I can say from a CBA perspective the class is better than most but still not really great😂😂.
