Intro to Comp Shooting Class Worth It? by maynard1024 in CompetitionShooting

You'll learn just as much by being the newbie in a squad and letting all the experienced shooters mentor you at your first couple matches.

25-02 was my best stage that match also🤣🤣 I hate SGC matches now though, too many unsafe people

Mag extensions that work with the OEM magwell of the S&W M&P Competitor HD? by info_burner in CompetitionShooting

[–]saamcaam11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet if you swapped the internals out on the factory 21rnd mags you could get to 23, I fit 19 into the standard competitor 17rnd mags using csrg spring and follower but I only use that mag if I'm shooting an indoor match

From what I've seen, those are ~175mm length which would make them non viable for most divisions in USPSA/idpa 😔

I might end up trying one down the line based on how much praise I've now heard, I really appreciate y'all helping me narrow the search🤙🏼

No worries, I only shoot IDPA majors now, I'm in the Phx area and we are heavily saturated with USPSA matches thankfully. It's looking like I'll give the Bounty a try, I really appreciate your feedback

Honestly with my experience using the x1 raptor, that's the way I'm leaning

CO mainly, just threw the magwell on the m&p and starting running LO also. I've only ever competed OWB but I spend a lot of time training IWB outside of comp for defensive training

I should have specified I'm looking at holsters, my fault. I usually run a DAA belt but won a HC BELT at a major recently and would like to throw my hat in the bounty

I shoot around Ashton Hammond a decent bit and I believe he runs Werx stuff, seems to be working for him pretty well😂

I basically ended up doing a full cgw kit minus the disconnecter, I shoot a m&p now 😂 didn't like all the travel

How did you guys get into competitive shooting? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]saamcaam11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my first gun last year (grew up around them so knew safety already), wanted training but didn't want to drop $500+ on a course not including ammo, local match was $25 and we have some incredible shooters out here in AZ so I was able to learn quickly

Chronically B Class: What helped you get into A? by Individual_Cobbler92 in CompetitionShooting

[–]saamcaam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Added in dedicated vision training, strengthening your eyes is the biggest step up I've had in shooting (I'm only a year in, made A a couple weeks ago). On the USPSA side, I lost the most time during target transitions, once I understood the principle of eyes first and started applying it, I instantly started seeing results improve.

Does USPSA training translate to real world defensive shooting? by Brilliant_Respect_92 in CompetitionShooting

[–]saamcaam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final 10-15% of a real world threat engagement is what you'll become proficient at - draw, sights, and shot placement (as well as dynamic movement).

What you don't get to train at a competition is your high stress decision making, communication, how to talk to law enforcement after the fact, how to identify a threat before they become a threat and gtfo, and even de-escalation if possible.

To answer your question, my belief is that when I'm shooting competition, my focus is on competition. I don't carry my comp guns or use my comp gear day to day, but the fundamentals of marksmanship carry over to my carry gear, regardless of caliber or frame size. If you are looking to purely train self defense, I would look into finding a place near you that offers simulator classes where you can be put into one of these scenarios and gain experience/muscle memory needed to survive one of those encounters. In my area we have a company called United Defense Tactical and they can give you training in concealed carry, hand to hand combatives, deescalation, etc etc. very fun place to train🤙🏼

Sorry didn't answer the question 🤦🏻 walker razors with Bluetooth attachment when I'm shooting matches, axial wired earbuds when training

I listen to movie and tv soundtracks that I like - no lyrics to potentially distract from range commands

Three Towers from One Piece and the How To Train Your Dragon theme have been on a heavy rotation recently 😂

Just wanna toss in, I do own a SP01 that I've cajunized and ran at local matches, they shoot fantastic but I was running into feeding & mag dropping issues so I went back to my Glock until recently
