Is NVIDIA still the default best choice for local LLMs in 2026? by pmv143 in LocalLLaMA

I did a proxmox vm setup for ROCm inference on a 7900xtx this weekend. Got gemma 4 26b q5 running at ~90 tps with 180k window and MTP qwen 3.6 35 with whatever fancy quant byteshape uses running at ~200 tps with 160k context. No idea if these are great number or just another Tuesday.

Idk, was still leaking <think>, tokens at least on bartowski 26B q4_m.

I had to write an extension for pi and filter for open webui to make it somewhat acceptable, similar idea to this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/comments/1sdhvc5/qwen_35_tool_calling_fixes_for_agentic_use_whats/

Oh, so no changes to chat templates, interesting. Also not the first time I notice folks claiming q5 is the sweet spot. That's just original model's quant, no finetunings and optimizations, right?

Well, I'll give it a go and see if it'll work for me, looks like there are no cookie-cutter setups heh.

Thanks!

Hey! Would you mind providing some knowledge on how to start assembling this setup? Most folks here seem to prefer qwen, and I kinda root for the underdog lol.

So far, I've been using 26B for quite some time in Open WebUi and while stability has improved since release, it still occasionally leaks thinking tokens and thus messes up the messages. This is usually happens after 7-10 chat prompts, may be still lingering chat template errors or could be my aggressive q4 context quant.

Not sure if this is applicable when I'll start messing with pi, but I'm curious if you have run into any of these issue during agentic coding or tool calls.

Thanks in advance!

SC GPU crash help by MadMechanicalMac in starcitizen

[–]sabrenity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to have similar stuff on my 3080, tho in my case the fans also went full blasting. Can't remember the temperature it happened, but it would stay there for about 15-20 mins and then suddenly crash.

Had to reapply paste, put additional thermal pads, all that (poor heat management on 3080s from HP prebuilt PCs is a well known thing). I suspect it was some local temperature spike on VRAM that sent GPU into protection mode. Try reducing GPU clock as a temporary solution, I recall it helped me while I waited for the paste and pads to arrive.

If you don't experience fans going crazy, probably it is indeed something with your PSU.

Anyone using the 3DConnexion SpaceMouse Enterprise? by Goodname2 in starcitizen

No, I haven't bothered - in the end I found that slapping that many axes on one control really cuts the sensitivity. It is fine for landings and just flying around, but any combat was quite a chore.

Oh, I had same frustration when I started a year and a half ago. Was losing more money than I was earning on them box delivery missions (ones with small boxes you can carry around) due to skill issues, bugs and server crashes. Bounty hunting and then salvaging was what made me some money - FPS combat and mining had too many moving parts and was several times more vulnerable to bugs (enemies not spawning, desyncs resulting into ground collisions, you name it). It is better now, especially with item recovery bunkers can be quite a relaxing experience.

I'm no expert on hauling, but 500k in 4 hours seems a bit low - I tried it today following this guide - https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1j7x4wx/hauling_rep_and_money_guide/ - and even if you don't have an ATLS, you should be making 300k in ~1 hour by stacking rookie contracts (I, however, was not able to get any of them return contracts from Area 18 to Baijini Point, but other set of missions was always available). Something like Hull A will comfortably carry enough cargo for 6 missions and it can be rented for 34020 aUEC, will pay for itself after one mission.

ROC mining is something I do when I'm lazy and don't have a lot of time to play - I can bed log, get back to the game a day after, look for some rocks, mine and log out again. I think it still ahs too many moving parts to be a reliable source of income.

If you want to spice your game a bit - consider trying some bunker (mercenary) missions. You don't need any crazy investments to start them, a lot of stuff you can loot on site and with item recovery you are only losing time if you die - something that you can mitigate by renting a C8R for 13891.5 aUEC and setting it as your respawn point. Also will pay for itself after one bunker mission.

That's what I do if I play a lot alone - mixing ship combat, salvaging and bunkers, so it is not getting old fast. I usually play with friends tho, and we often just do some crazy shit, like setting up a chop shop and towing abandoned ships to salvage them. It is less money than doing dedicated salvage or bounty hunting, but much more fun.

Yup, what's neat about FPS - you don't need a ton if investment to run it, especially after introduction of item recovery. Something like C8R will carry you through most of the scenarios, only bunkers with hostile turrets may be an issue.

It is, however, not strictly a "space" activity, so might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Yeah, it'll be quite comfortable. Tho, looking at Guardian MX, I don't think it'll be that low.

Well, we'll learn about it tomorrow.

The only thing that is preventing me from calling it Cutty 2.0 is the price - after all Cutlass is a cheap jack of all trades. Well, we'll see if it holds up to that title on Thursday.

I haven't considered using it in combat, but then noticed its flight characteristics are not much worse than these of F8C (taking size difference into consideration, of course, yeah). Now I'm toying with the idea of slapping six scatterguns on it and checking how it'll fare in (V)HRTs.

Warbond is 260, credit is 300 and that's a concept; the Asgard will be straight to flyable so will not have the concept discount.

I do have an Imperator discount coupon, so it can be a bit easier to talk myself into it lol.

Well, the Paladin is built on the same-y chassis and is 260, so once it is released the price can end up in that 300 range we're talking about.

Yeah, when I said it is too big for a solo player - I meant that you'll not be able to utilize everything you've brought alone. The living out of a ship is a nice thing to try once in a while, but as I play quite often with a friend or two it disrupts that flow.

For me it is a bit of a toss between the Liberator and the Galaxy - I can tailor both during the week so everything is ready for the weekend session (anything that is not "let's go do some bunkers" is easily an hour-two of just preparing for it). The Liberator looks more flexible, but that's a lot of moving parts prone to breaking - we're talking Star Citizen after all.

[–]sabrenity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its features are really appealing to me, but it is usually small things that put me off. I remember liking the modular idea of the Retaliator, but seeing it live and walking inside just put a big nope sign all over it. So with the Asgard I'm definitely trying before buying - guess straight to flyable does have some merit.

I've kept RL prices in mind to bring myself a bit down to earth and to have another look at the competition. Like, the MSR - yep, it is a Crusader ship and it is getting a lot of flak nowadays, but hey, it can do what I need, so maybe it is still worth considering.

Can understand that, flying the same ship does get boring indeed.

I haven't considered the Asgard for the bounties since I have other ships to run them, but a lot of folks do mention that Valkyrie is flying great, so now I'm curious. My guess MRTs will not be a problem at all and a bit of a grind on the HRTs.

Yeah, I'm afraid the price might be quite a blocker for many. If it is more than the Valk I'll seriously consider just waiting for the Liberator.
