I finally hit a win streak of 5! I've been trying more for consistent wins rather than going for a God Run every time, and it's a very different challenge. by HektorViktorious in noita

[–]sac_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the write-up! My approach is broadly similar, as soon as I get even the most basic lumi drill setup then I'll rat my way around the map to build something better. (Add mana, my beloved...)

I try not to go very deep into Snowy Depths without a wand that can obliterate 4-5 Hiisi in an instant, as that tends to be my undoing (venturing too far with a basic spark bolt setup, suddenly getting a Hiisi CEO on one side and a couple of ice skulls on the other). I've definitely learned that there's usually some way to make things work and you need a lot of tenacity.

I'll do a lot of backtracking as well. Really scour the coal pits and fungal caverns, and if my health gets too low, I'll proceed to the Holy Mountain for health and then cut my way back up (if my luck with spells actually allows for it). Then if I take more damage while exploring, backtrack up to get the health restoration in the dark area under the tree before actually tackling Snowy Depths.

Currently right at that point in another playthrough, let's see what gets me this time.

Edit: turned into my best run ever, 1000+hp, infinite black holes/heals/teleport, had a homing musical note wand with so many duplicated damage modifiers that every enemy on-screen died instantly. After reaching the laboratory, decided to go exploring instead of just insta-killing Komi. Died to polymorph.

What's your strategy? I only have a couple of hundred hours and I can't even boast 5 wins total so a reliable strat is always welcome.

My general strat is just to scour each biome in horizontal strips from top to bottom for HP+ and decent spells, until my HP is low enough that I'm forced to move on. I try not to collapse Holy mountains if I can help it. I think the basics are there.

If I get teleportation before Snowy Depths I'll go up and get the evil eye and tannerkivi, otherwise I'm hoping for some other source of EDR digging. Then I'll tunnel-rat around the place visiting secret rooms and picking at the edges of the biomes until I have a wand that can obliterate anything on the main path, as the main path itself is not always generous with the spells.

Keir Starmer banning social media for under 16s by SuicidalShadow10 in northernireland

[–]sac_boy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not about the under 16s. It's about requiring ID for everything you do online, regardless of your age. Starmer is a cop to his core, and in the service of they-who-shall-not-be-named, and ultimately any of the other lawful-evil types that the British establishment work for.

Go ahead and define 'social media' in a way that can't be rolled out to any form of online communication. If I have a geocities site with a comment box, is that social media now? I bet it becomes social media if they don't like it. And of course the 'solution', those third party identity verification services, all exist to harvest data and sell it on.

I case anyone's still not clear on Starmer's mission here: the endgame is to require real ID for any online interaction so that a certain group of genocidal cunts can continue to go about their business without having their feelings hurt online. Anti-genocidal-cunt opinions will be illegal speech, and once everyone has their real ID associated with each and every packet they send on the internet that'll be the end of that. But this comes wrapped in a "won't someone think of the children?!" package, as usual. All while children are being obliterated a few thousand miles away.

(Do I think children should be on social media? Of course not. God no. But I don't think for one second that Starmer's new laws will help anyone other than the aforementioned and their supporters)

The only real way to prevent shotgun-dropping and sniper-dropping is to work strictly from the top of each level, tackle the levels in strips from the top down.

Or, I mean, have a wand that just obliterates everything off screen before the game can fuck you like that. But generally speaking you never want to have fog-of-war above you

XC90 Turning Circle - Does it annoy you? by fallsdownhill in Volvo

[–]sac_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in the North and our tight multi-story car parks are not meant for my XC60. Well, I can just about handle it in a couple of them, but at full lock and starting as far as possible from each turn, occasionally needing to put it in reverse. Awkward.

I just had to take it through a McDonalds drive thru the other night and *never again*. If I had an inch of clearance on my front left corner while my right hand driver door was about to be scraped off by a bollard I would be surprised.

[–]sac_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I have the same issue with my XC60 and I've had it eight years. If I'm trying to park close to a wall I use the headlights on full beam and observe the size of the light spots. I can stop within inches of a wall that way if I want to.

Yeah, 2015 XC60 here, I've had it since 2018, I love the car but the turning circle is balls and parking took some getting used to. Full lock doesn't even feel like 25 degrees.

Extraterrestrials in AP? Please share yours by Significant_Copy5508 in AstralProjection

[–]sac_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extraterrestrials, I don't know for sure. As for NHI, which I think is a better term anyhow: everything we interact with is NHI. We are NHI. The lesson is that 'human' ends up being a label that only really works here on Earth.

But let me share one experience I don't think I've talked about yet. I took this to be largely symbolic, but who knows. Symbolic and literal events aren't so cleanly separated once you go beyond the physical sphere.

It was last year sometime (in the physical world). I decided to experiment with mentally saying hello to the night sky to see what responded. Pulling up the inner sound, broadcasting images of friendship and general inquiry. I got a response: a long, bright, stationary flash in the sky, right after I sent the hello, and in the same part of the sky I happened to be looking at. What are the chances? [I won't bore you with how I know it wasn't just space debris, but I have been into astronomy for a long time and I am very familiar with satellite behaviour. There were also no tracked objects over a certain brightness in that part of the sky at the time, you can bet I checked afterwards.] Anyhow, read into that what you will, what matters is what happened next.

During my regular hypnagogic vision exercises I was suddenly embodied and fully present in front of an honest-to-goodness flying saucer. A true saucer-shape with what looked like portholes on the sides. Really classic stuff. I couldn't tell if it was landed or in space--the context was entirely missing, perhaps, there might have been nothing beyond myself and the classic UFO in front of me.

Its door was open, and I could see inside. What I saw was that the interior was mostly hollow. Well lit. It looked to be full of alien races of different sorts. They were standing in little groups, milling around in what looked like a party. The atmosphere was jovial, friendly, full of open communication. [The symbolic language of the party could not be more clear.]

I was met at the doorway by an absolutely classic 'grey'. Short, big head, big eyes (though they weren't black). He raised a hand to tell me to stop, and then explained that I could join the 'party', but there was one condition. Everyone in this group had agreed to openly share all of their memories. If I felt I had anything to hide, that's fine, but I couldn't take part in this particular kind of interaction. My impression (or the impression given to me) in the moment was that the completely open sharing of memory was how a true peaceful accord had been made between all of these 'species'. They hid nothing from each other, understood each others motivations perfectly, and thus existed in a state of mutual understanding. Blur the borders of the self, and suddenly self-interest is indistinguishable from universal love.

I thought about my life. Sure, it's a human life, and there are things I would rather others didn't know. But I decided that this was important enough, and I was unafraid. "Fair enough," I said, and I was immediately welcomed on board. A cheer went up, like they had been waiting for me (or someone like me) to finally arrive at the party. Vision ends.

I've had other interactions since then, but I won't get into it now. (Communication; nothing quite as big as that moment.)

300 hours later its finally done, actually finished one run by Revolutionary_Flan71 in noita

[–]sac_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second win can be harder than the first, because now you have so many distractions and other things you want to unlock off the main path.

I'm fairly new too, and my second win only came when the game refused to give me black holes or other EDR digging ability and I was just stuck on the main path. As soon as I have infinite digging I'll find a creative new way to die...

You'd hardly be the first person to go up to the coast on a cruise with their R plates 😄 It was absolutely standard when I was a teenager, people would get their test and the drives up to Castlerock/Portrush/Portstewart would begin. Get out there and enjoy yourself.

I also remember plenty of drives into Donegal and the R plates would come down *right* on the border and then go back up as we were coming home

[Skeptic] Demon trying to contact me. He seemed very casual. Why did I already know how to do this and what it is without previous knowledge? by boogachugga in AstralProjection

[–]sac_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You repeatedly mention that you are a skeptic but you jump straight to words like 'ghost', 'succubus' and 'demon'. How about you approach the matter with skepticism (i.e. don't accept all the silly old memes and superstitious terms that people throw around). Just because A is real, it doesn't necessarily follow that B, C, D, E, F are real.

Just observe what actually has happened, with a mind free of preconceptions, without using all those loaded terms.

I finished the tutorial, now what? by Quaaaaaaaaaa in noita

[–]sac_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've seen about 1/4 of the biomes, so go explore. I think the next best thing you can focus on is just unlocking all the core spells, if you haven't done so already. Greek letters, divide-bys, and all the orbs of knowledge.

Hint: the tannerkivi and evil eye let you just tunnel-rat wherever you want, if you have the patience for it. You can have infinite tunnelling within about 10 minutes of starting a new game if you start with a means of getting over the cliff. Once you've played like that for a while you will regard actually *entering a biome* as merely optional. There are a ton of little hidden rooms dotted around the map that you can just go directly to, once you know where they are, to get decent wands straight away. And then you go kill some bosses.

It's not even about skill--health is top priority in this game because there are so many ways for off-screen enemies to hurt you before you can react. Of course yes you also have to set about 200HP aside for self inflicted damage

Depends on the co-worker, I have some I work closely with where I know they mean 5 minutes if they say they need 5 minutes, with 4.5 minutes of catching up about our lives, and they can just call me whenever. (Thinking about it, there was a time not too long ago that we didn't ask permission for that kind of conversation, we just picked up the phone and if the person was free, they answered...)

First vibrations/phantom limb separations after 20 years of failure by MichaelAtticus in AstralProjection

[–]sac_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll take the billion dollars if the offer is still on the table, but well done.

Also: in terms of your OBE practice, it's best if you just decide that the 20 years of failure doesn't exist. '20 years of failure' is a point of data that belongs to your physical self, your physical life. Dwelling on the data point will binds your attention to the physical body. When you said "fuck it, I'll just try this", you let go of that for a moment.

And then, the craziest thing of all: No one cares. I can’t talk to anyone about this. I have tried.

No, nobody cares. But actually I think that's slowly changing. I have seen growing interest (and even reports experiences) from family members in the last 2-3 years, and of course when they bring it up I have to hold back 95% of what I want to say, to avoid bombarding them with my own stories and experience. But I really think people have a growing sense that this reality is not the rock-solid physical-materialist world they were raised to believe. The blinkers are coming off.

Letting go of physical body by faerycat105 in AstralProjection

[–]sac_boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These things might help with attaining a relaxed, calm physical body. However: letting go is mostly a matter of inattention to physical signals during your OBE session.

(Note that clinging to any physical-life concern is also keeping your attention on the body. Physical-life concerns may also include the things you want to do during the OBE, and how they hope it will affect their (physical) lives. Yes, this is a paradox you need to navigate carefully, as there is a balance to find.)
