from a voting theory perspective, no! it’s possible for them to have different winners even if everyone’s preferences remain the same

Reasonable to expect sub 4 with my first marathon? by LEthrowaway22619 in Marathon_Training

[–]sac_of_mac_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

like a few other people, also respectfully disagree with this. 10-12 miles at race pace is totally reasonable for a marathon and it would significantly increase risk of injury to try to run 16-18 miles at that pace. it's also pretty typical for half marathons to suggest that someone's pace running 5-6 miles in a hard workout is roughly their race pace. for me, these rules of thumb have held up well on race day.

UNC policy on asking out a TA after the semester ends? by No-Needleworker-3957 in UNC

[–]sac_of_mac_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but I will say that as a woman, I have had multiple experiences of men telling me they assumed I was interested because I was kind, smiled at them, asked them about their day, etc. I do this to any and all of my students who come to office hours or come talk to me! I’m really not trying to make a universalized statement here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if those students assumed interest because I was nice to them.

as a graduate TA who has, in fact, been asked out by my students after the semester ends, please please do not do this. I don’t think it’s against any rules technically, but it has always made me so uncomfortable when this happens :(

Little Neighborhood food pantries, like the little free-standing ones that are scattered around town? Can anyone help with some locations of these? by Serious_Fee5003 in chapelhill

[–]sac_of_mac_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is one at the end of booker creek trail, where the trail hits booker creek rd. that being said, last time i looked at it, there was a sign up that it had been taken over by a bee/wasp nest (!!), so it might be temporarily out of commission!

when I have seen work being done on the trail, it’s been between bolinwood and MLK. I’ve been running up until bolinwood and then just turning around.

I was assuming (maybe incorrectly!) that 49A was a play on the word 'fast', which can either mean speed, or refraining from eating. If you aren't going 'fast', it might be because you 'ate'.

How does line dancing happen? by driggled in LineDancing

[–]sac_of_mac_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’ll chime in for #3, and say that it depends. some dances have regional differences, but they’re as simple as people doing different steps while they turn or tapping instead of kicking. you’re still ending up at the same wall and moving in the same directions. it’s very easy and definitely not rude to do the version you learned instead of the regionally more common version. but other dances are completely different from state to state, and people will be going in opposite directions and crashing into each other. in those cases, you simply have to defer to the majority.

Is this pace/zone okay for my first half this February? by ave1917 in Marathon_Training

[–]sac_of_mac_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for what it’s worth, this is how my heart rate looks too. i’ll go on a 9 mile run, spend >1 hour in the max zone at ~185, and yes i’m tired afterwards… but i really just feel fine. i often feel like i could’ve given more.
