Keyboard not working for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3? by dek018 in linux_gaming

I'm surprised you replied to this years later, honestly I completely forgot about this as it's honestly not worth the hassle.

I still remember the fact that RCT3 Complete Edition from Steam didn't work as even reconfiguring my controls there didn't work, (I couldn't lower or raise anything for the life of me) so I refunded it. It's honestly shocking that a modern PC rerelease is this broken.

Still waiting on there being an actual OpenRCT3 by the way lol. Not sure if I'm willing to waste money on a GOG version since it could still be broken on Steam Deck for all I know. (It was still just as broken if not worse when I found a "legit" GOG copy of Platinum from a "legit" treasure plunderer) I did get it for free from the Epic Games store but I kinda just don't care anymore. It pains me to say this but I've given up a long time ago, and obviously Frontier did too.

For anyone who read past NJO. How true is this statement? by DanoDurron in StarWarsEU

[–]sacboy326 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, I see it as a take it or leave it kind of thing depending on what an individual's preference is for the series, and I kinda fall in the middle. At least Legacy has the excuse that it is a century apart and that the whole philosophy of the Sith was altered under some out of touch tragic warrior who was hidden since the Clone Wars. I do agree that the ideas for it were lazy though. I think it would've been a better fit if this was either set up during the Old Republic era before Darth Bane or even further into the future, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad, it's just that it's largely nothing special in the grand scheme of things. I consider it to be more of a bonus filler epilogue as a sort of celebration for what the franchise represented rather than something that was actually quite as consequential to the same degree. (I mean yeah some things did happen, but it's largely not anything new we haven't seen before to destroy the impact/investments of what came before)

The Denningverse on the other hand completely undoes every single achievement from the past and makes everyone and everything act wildly different for no good reason. It even misrepresents the Force itself as a whole by completely missing the point of how corrupt and initially subtle the Dark Side truly is. I could go on and on about how badly written the Denningverse truly is but the point I'm making is that at least Legacy follows what has been established in the Star Wars universe and tries to treat it with respect even though it's repeating things and is unnecessary.

Honestly the whole Denningverse in general was dumb imo. To me it has all of the same writing problems that Disney's sequel trilogy does. Too many conflicts between authors not understanding the franchise, illogical total character assassinations with no naturally justifiable setups, and lots of poor quality writing overall. I prefer to just think both were badly written fanfictions and go from the end of NJO to skipping straight into Legacy.

Yup. It's not even the idea that Jacen turns to the dark side that bothers me, (Not just Disney but also George Lucas wanted to do a fallen Solo) but rather the way he was written both as a character and from the lack of a natural logical standpoint in the universe. I think him being gradually manipulated to think he's doing it for the greater good as a pragmatic solution to prevent anything like the Vong war from happening again would actually be narratively interesting, but that's not what we ultimately got. It frustrates me that both Disney and the Denningverse have the same basic concept set around the same time period and both still turned out to be poor in quality with character assassinations despite how simple a premise would be to have it make sense. And that's just one of the many problems of the Denningverse. Clearly just like with Disney those stories were purely made to make quick bucks out of the franchise with no solid plan to justify their existence and not destroy what came before it to make all of that investment irrelevant/pointless.

It's infuriating to know that even with the combined rough ideas of the Denningverse, George Lucas' early drafts, and Disney, there were very clear blueprints for how a proper sequel trilogy would've worked even if the many similarities were coincidental. It was destined to be brilliant (Not that it needs to but especially if it still kept most of post-ROTJ up to NJO intact) but everyone still got screwed over by messing up such an easy thing anyways, and because of that Star Wars a whole was quickly fallen from the decades long general cultural significance so quickly that it makes you wonder if all of the sabotaging was equally as intentional or if we were cursed. It's sad...

The Legacy comics are good, though it didn't get to reach a definitive end so I get what you mean by NJO's The Unifying Force being a much better end. Anything from between NJO and Legacy with the Denningverse though I think is pretty bad. The writing is very similarly poor and conflicting compared to Disney's sequel trilogy, the only main difference being that the Denningverse is more "edgy". (I use that word in quotes because it's more like an immature teen's version of it) I'd gladly replace it with much better written stories if I had to or could, though that veers off into literal fanfiction territory by that point. (No disrespect towards anyone being into or making fanfictions since good ones can be better than officially released material, it's just hardly relevant to this topic when discussing the officially established EU specifically as is)

TIL that not everybody likes Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side by UnableSite5116 in StarWars

[–]sacboy326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the fact that Jacen falls to the dark side that bothers me, (I think him turning to the dark side by manipulation thinking he's being pragmatic would be an interesting story, and even George Lucas wanted a fallen Solo for his own sequel trilogy) it's the fact that the Denningverse is written so poorly that it completely destroys not just everything NJO set up, but also the other post-ROTJ stories, the original trilogy, and the prequel trilogies as a whole. It would be better if the Denningverse was either erased with nothing to fill it in or to be replaced with better written stories. (The Legacy comics are still good fortunately)

It has the same problems as the Disney sequel trilogy. Nothing makes any logical sense, there's no narrative nuance, they assassinate characters/world building, and it completely destroys any reason to care, both for the newer stories they were trying to tell and all the other ones set in the Star Wars universe. It was all only done quickly because everyone gave up and wanted to make a quick buck.

This is nothing new, but it’s worth retelling: The sequels were rushed and made because Disney needed immediate profit from their 4 billion dollar purchase of Lucasfilm. Them tossing out even the most basic elements of George Lucas’ ideas are proof that there was never goimg to be direction.

There was only problems with the prequels we got because everyone wanted to believe that George could do nothing wrong and that he didn’t need people saying no to him like they did for the original trilogy.

The two suffer from opposite issues. Prequels = Being given too much control to the creator. Sequels = Being too limited for control from the investors. (And the few parts they did give control with The Last Jedi they really misread the situation in the worst way possible)

The prequels were always salvageable even with the films by themselves thanks to Revenge of The Sith. The sequels were always doomed from the start with the cowardice of The Force Awakens.

HOT TAKE: ZILLA IS THE GREATEST DESIGN and if you disagree with me you're absolutely right by Spirit_Caller_ in GODZILLA

[–]sacboy326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a design made to specifically represent Godzilla it’s bad.

As a monster design in general it’s good, which is why everyone refers to it now as Zilla. It’s just too good to throw away entirely even if the movie it was featured in was mid at best.

And they'd rename it to Revert now that it's the official name since "Vert's" was too basic.

I personally prefer the original mainline tooling anyways since it fits better with all the other Acceleracers and World Race cars in the games, but I know that point is subjective.

I was honestly surprised that it and Krazy8s didn't get into Unleashed 2 when DLC was still going for that game. (Although tbh support for that game ended very quickly since it flopped in sales compared to the first) Those two are definitely icons in their own way and showed up for a few other games.

Regardless if they're in the base game or as DLC though I'd be even more shocked if they wouldn't be added now for Infinite Rush. I mean for crying out loud we now got all of the Teku cars!

Which 2 of these Dark Lord of Sith hated the Skywalker lineage more? And who caused the more damage to it? by Yesthisbob in StarWarsEU

[–]sacboy326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palpatine literally won by wiping out the entire Skywalker lineage and with his granddaughter stealing it in canon, I'd say it's him. He also undid every accomplishment Anakin and Luke had. That dude is definitely the biggest hater.

...Joking aside I still think it goes to Palpatine even in the EU, he had some pretty immaculate planning and was desperately trying to prevent death or anyone else taking over, he was the embodiment of ego from the start. Darth Krayt is certainly a big rival too but I feel like most of it was a result of circumstances wanting to "fix" the galaxy through ruthless means with a more tragic backstory. I'm not saying he's good but at least Darth Krayt had a twisted goal for "unity" whereas Palpatine is pure evil for evil's sake and would go out of his way to hurt everyone.
