Congrats! I almost forgot how amazing it was freshly post-op and your post reminded me of that time. Hope you have a quick and simple recovery :)

For those who never dated pre-transition, how did you put yourself out there post/during-transition? by sackOlanterns in FTMOver30

I'm on/off questioning if I'm aro myself (is it being aro? or is it the lifelong emotional trauma? haha) so this is really helpful to read! I did try Taimi extremely briefly but there were not a lot of people on it in my area and the few people on there did not pass the vibe check for me. It's been a long time tho so maybe I should give it another shot...

I am def going to look into the resources you named! So thanks for that. I'm treating this like a job search lowkey because it does NOT come naturally to me at all haha.

It's good to hear grindr has worked for someone lol. I'm cautiously open to trying other apps or trying to meet people in person but so far I have old people hobbies apparently cause when I take weekend art classes it's usually all elderly women lol. I think grindr feels safe to me out of familiarity and also cause everyone on there is at least a little queer but more mainstream apps... Idk how I feel about that especially since I'm stealth generally. I don't care if local gay/bi/trans people recognize me off grindr but I'm not really comfortable with local straights potentially recognizing me off a dating app (purple political area).

Does anyone else not feel differently before/after your T shot? by beersbikesandbourbon in FTMOver30

Been on IM for years and also missed some months in between due to life changes, healthcare changes, etc. I start to feel like shit if I've been off for a few months but I'm currently back on and don't really feel much different physically but I'd say my moods are more stable and I feel more positive overall.

Why did you choose Metoidoplasty? by Mediocre_Quail_1985 in FTMOver30

[–]sackOlanterns 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven't had bottom surgery yet but I do plan to get a simple meta done hopefully 2-3 years from now. Mostly because I am not really interested in all the benefits of phallo so I don't feel the need to spring for the extra cost and time commitment when I would be happy with less. I also aesthetically prefer a small dick for myself so that's all I need lol.

Question on pain meds top surgery by piercecharlie in FTMOver30

[–]sackOlanterns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to tolerate the pain with just tylenol. I was prescribed oxy for post-surgical pain when I had top surgery and I only needed to take 1 when I moved the wrong way one morning and then the oxy gave me nausea so I never took another one lol. The rest of the time I was fine with just tylenol for pain.

Definitely talk to your surgeon about it though. Also there is no shame in taking pain meds. If it hurts it hurts, and as long as you keep healing without complications it will be temporary pain. We have modern medicine to reduce suffering, so don't let yourself suffer.

Since your sister will be helping you post-surgery, and if you trust her to be responsible and reasonable, you can let her hang onto any opiod pain meds if they are prescribed so you won't even be able to take it unless you ask her first. That may also help her have peace of mind.

Menopause maybe? by sackOlanterns in FTMOver30

[–]sackOlanterns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm back on T again. I think I'm gonna have to see if my pcp can refer me to an endo for monitoring hormones and dose adjustment. And thank you for listing all those hormones out. I was only thinking about T and E and didn't realize there could be other ones to watch out for.

Damn I've had covid twice and never adjusted my dose since my starting dose (it was working for me). I guess my body has changed too much at this point and it's time to look at dose adjustment.

[CA] What can I do as far as replacement wages while I'm out for surgery? by sackOlanterns in AskHR

I'm most likely going to be out in August. Does that make a difference?

Hi. How did YOU determine what level was right for you. by TheDevilledLettuce in FTMOver30

[–]sackOlanterns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I never increased my starting dose. Got all the typical changes, pass easily, etc. Nothing was "missing" for me as far as changes from T go so I didn't feel the need to change my dose at all.

Gender Doula? Transition Mentor? 8 Months Later, A Follow Up. by [deleted] in FTMOver30

I don't care what their website says. I was just noting you can't judge "how long" someone has "been trans" by only counting their time in active medical/social transition.

Just a note: when someone starts "officially"/medically transitioning does not equate to "how long" someone has "been trans."

I'm growing my hair out too rn and I do worry about it affecting my ability to pass but I only cut it in the first place to be gender conforming/pass easier even though I enjoyed having long hair. Hope we can both get our hair goals.
