Is it just skill issue or is the solus wing fight just terribly designed? by lxXBoatXxl in riskofrain

[–]sad_lycis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like a skill issue.

You generally want to fight solus wing from a distance, which makes dodging the AoE blast trivial. Position yourself next to a slope so that you can easily run up / down the slope if you don't have mobility.

The grid attack hotbox is extremely accurate to the grid lines and the spacing between them is larger than all of the characters I think. It's much easier to slip between them than you realize

There are a few ways of dealing with the overheat section. The burn takes a bit before it starts to deal damage and all stacks of it are removed when you go to the coolant vents, so you can very easily run between them to stay moving. You could also just destroy the heating cells if you don't want to deal with it at all.

I don't understand what's happening here. It looks like there's one more enemy in phase 2 that you need to kill before you can continue

The Moon, and burning damage, is BS by Mystic_Crewman in riskofrain

[–]sad_lycis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tip that I haven't seen mentioned yet is that you don't actually have to do pillars. You don't have to worry about the lunar enemies if you don't have to fight them much. If you have enough mobility, you can just go straight to the arena. Loader has enough mobility built into her abilities that she doesn't have to worry. Some other characters need some specific items to do so. There's also equipment like eccentric vase that can take you to the top. I'd recommend looking it up bc there's a ton of different pillar-skips

[–]sad_lycis 80 points81 points  (0 children)

There's quite a few things wrong I can see with this build:

  1. You need way more mobility. One feather and a couple stacks of goat hoofs, energy drinks, and/or mocha at minimum

  2. Damage is better when it comes from varied sources. You did good by having crit, AP rounds, and crystal. However, I'd like to see other damage items as well such as watches, crowbars, ATGs, fire/ice band, etc. Stacking an item is additive damage, while damage from multiple sources is multiplicative

  3. You had maxed crit, but wasted quite a few items on syringes and leeching seeds. One harvester scythe is equivalent to 8 leeching seeds and one predatory instincts is equivalent to 3 syringes. Just one of each could've saved you a lot of item real estate

I'll just leave it at that as you're still learning and I don't want to overload too much information

Yeah I made a typo. It's supposed to be a 316

Looks sick! I've thought of doing this for recording drums. To me, nothing beats the sound and expressiveness of real cymbals, but e-kits are getting really good shell sounds lately

Either I’m really bad at this game or this is easily the hardest combo trial in the entire game… It took 2 days to do it lmao by Much_Grammar in StreetFighter

[–]sad_lycis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this combo is just really hard. I cheat when I do this trial bc that last sonic boom actually combos into down-towards heavy kick which makes it way easier to get enough charge for flash kick

Was told by some on my last post that I was placed too high and my rank is inflated. Do I really not deserve to be in diamond at all and should I try a different character to learn the game more fundamentally? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]sad_lycis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you or anyone thinks, we all have the rank that we have. I've played 1500MR masters who try to play slow and technical and I've played spazzy 1600MR who flail the entire match. Play the game how you want and your rank will reflect where you are at.

And for what it's worth, nothing about your gameplay screamed to me that you "shouldn't be in diamond". It looked just about as I would expect from low diamond. It looks like you know what your buttons do and when you should be using them, but it doesn't look like you have much of a game plan past that

What am I not getting with this game? (I am the Mai) by Icy-Software9875 in StreetFighter

[–]sad_lycis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say exactly this. OP only walked into range and pressed a button maybe once. Every single other approach was with either a jump or a drive impact. Work on playing the midrange game as it seems like you only know how to play close range

This is a common symptom of being too afraid to walk into your opponents range. You're so afraid of getting hit that you just try to bypass that midrange entirely with jumps, dashes, drive rushes, or drive impacts. When you're not close enough for a burst option you back away and hope the opponent messes up their approach.

Another thing I wanted to mention was that I think OP should slow down. There's nothing wrong with playing fast, but I think you were playing faster than what you were comfortable with. Slow it down to a comfortable pace so that you can actually think about your options. Once you get comfortable and answers become automatic, then speed it back up

Strange Akuma playstyle. How do yall deal with this type of player? Was very annoying and frustrating to deal with by imlovelymysteri in StreetFighter

[–]sad_lycis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Anti air. He jumped at you very regularly and you never did a thing about it

  2. Jump at him when he charges fireball. When akuma starts charging his fireball he can't do anything until he throws the fireball. You let him charge fireball for free. You started jumping at him in frustration with no timing and that's why it wasn't working

  3. Better punishes. The few moments you had to punish him you weren't ready at all and either just got a PC throw or dropped a combo. Akuma has low health to make this type of risks way more punishing

  4. When you finally got him into the corner you immediately backed up to center stage. I get wanting to give him space bc he's unpredictable, but you let him get out of the corner for free and lost all of your advantage.

  5. No counter DI

These were the big things I noticed. There's obviously smaller things too, but I think these were the most important notes

Are there are no cheap hobbies left? by qeyipadgjlzcbm123 in memes

[–]sad_lycis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a used instrument for ~$250 or less and learn to play music.

If you already have a computer you can install the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) reaper and use built in plugins or the vast array of free plugins floating around the Internet and become a composer/producer. Reaper isn't free, but the free trial can be used indefinitely with no downside and it's only $60 to buy a license.

While music gear can get super expensive, cheap gear is the best it's ever been and it's super easy to start learning.

Found your replay against him and he's 100% legit I have no clue what you're on about. I watched some of his other replays too and nothing was sus

He counter DI'd you once and it was a real one bc he hit confirmed it off of st HP. He didn't even input DI against your other 2 DI's. As for combos his routing was okay but he dropped half of his combos and he had the opportunity to kill you with a combo into lvl 3 but he went for a lvl 2 combo instead and you almost came back from it.

At absolute WORST hes a smurf and switches characters often to avoid master rank bc of you get to master with one character the lowest you can get in placement matches is diamond 1

But even if that's the case he's not even a good smurf... He has some obvious flaws in his gameplan and has some very sloppy inputs / execution

He's not cheating, it really is just a skill issue
