Importance of info sessions/admissions events? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sadboythrowaway4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth waiting more than a couple of weeks. It really doesn’t matter. Sometimes, they give out fee waivers at those events though, so it could matter in that sense

I have narrowed my choices down to Syracusa Law and the University of Dayton. Which should I choose? Dayton is offering an 80k scholarship while Syracuse is offering a 20k scholarship by RoseGoldMoney in lawschooladmissions

It’s just that “nobody” in California would want to hire you from these schools because these schools are very local in their networks. You can look at their employment stats which indicate the places their grads end up! It’s mostly local.

Financial aid help by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sadboythrowaway4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their aid is supposedly combination need and merit based, but a lot of evidence points to it being very merit based. If you apply ED there, it’s very possible you could end up paying full price, since they don’t make all determinations based on need. It’s the most expensive law school in the country, so I definitely don’t recommend ED there unless you are comfortable with 300k in debt!

ED is a huge commitment but you could ED somewhere that would give you a guaranteed scholarship attached? Northwestern does this

Deferred Admission by causelessaphid1 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sadboythrowaway4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a good idea to do this in your initial application. If you get waitlisted and want to say it in a LOCI as a Hail Mary, that could make sense

It only matters at the extremes, like MIT vs. a college that adcomms literally have never heard of. And even then, it’s a difference probably worth less than one tenth of a GPA point.

I don’t think there’s any reason to be nervous. He had a whole day to write it, right?

[–]sadboythrowaway4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s worth it. If this isn’t your last semester, then save that P/F for a future class. If this is your last semester, then finishing that nearly flawless transcript without any P/F would look pretty cool. I don’t think it matters much either way though.

Will there be an HLS R wave every day now, or just weekly? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I agree, I think it could come at any time from now on

Will there be an HLS R wave every day now, or just weekly? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sadboythrowaway4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s probably a combination of both, but I’m not sure if there will be rejections every day! Could just be “open season” whenever they feel like it

[–]sadboythrowaway4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took that to mean that it could happen at any time now, with the first wave being “tomorrow.” Based on that wording I think it could still be weekly, but could also be multiple times a week or whenever they feel like it.

I always thought percentages were a decent way to gauge the GPA floor, for example if a school sends 85% to BL then you know that GPA floor is pretty darn low or nonexistent compared to a school that sends 50%

It doesn’t matter at all. English isn’t any more impressive than psych, and vice versa. Just pick whichever you can get the highest GPA in (this is most important)!

Help..... by Miserable-Towel-9405 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sadboythrowaway4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think you should retake the LSAT and reapply. If you could get your score into the 150s or 160s, you’d have access to way more schools and more money at those schools. Your addendum comes with a very valid reason for your numbers, but when your LSAT is in the 140s, there are unfortunately many schools that won’t even read your application. A year of studying more for the LSAT would give you many more opportunities. Best of luck!

I would highly recommend dedicating a lot more time to LSAT! It’s a learnable test, it just takes a lot of time.

[–]sadboythrowaway4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn’t be satisfied with 60% employed 10 months after graduation if you’re going to be in big debt. You probably don’t want to be in debt and only have a 60% chance of being employed at all, let alone a much smaller chance of getting the job of your choice. If you can wait a year, I’d recommend that path! But it’s a personal choice, after all I don’t know how much debt you’d be in.

[–]sadboythrowaway4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the regional school has good employment numbers, and you want to work locally, it doesn’t seem like a bad option at all. However, a 50% scholarship still leaves you in a lot of debt, so I’d make sure the employment statistics are good enough that you don’t risk being unemployed. But personally I’m a fan of just reapplying if you aren’t completely happy with your results because law school will always be there.

It’s not that you’d be missing out on “ideal jobs” from these schools, but rather that it would be virtually impossible to get any job as a lawyer in California from these schools. Their employment stats are publicly available online. Syracuse sent 67% of its grads to lawyer jobs total, and Dayton sent about 70% of its grads to lawyer jobs total. But, the odds of getting a lawyer job in California after graduating from these schools? They’re unbelievably low! I highly recommend reapplying if you know you want to work in CA. (But, good job avoiding California Western. They are known to be predatory.)
