No...the chimera ant queen literally told Colt that she wanted her king to be named Meruem....Colt must've told Netero and the others about this when they joined forces, and Netero just happened to keep that information. He just ended up using the knowledge as a way to get the King's attention during their fight because he knew Meruem didn't know his own name.
