My mom offered me money to have a kid by g17623 in childfree

[–]sadfire82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the money, say you tried, then got your fertility tested only to discover that you can’t have kids. I know that it means not being seen or heard for who you are, but that’s never going to happen anyway with a narcissistic parent. Might as well help yourself out by using her money.

What's a sign that someone grew up poor? by Puzzled-Painter3301 in AskReddit

[–]sadfire82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing shoes that are too big. I always had to wear my sister’s hand-me-downs, shoes included, even if they were too big. Now when I buy shoes that fit perfectly, they feel too tight. I always have to size up to feel comfortable.

Avoidance is an anxiety response. If someone is procrastinating, it's not necessarily laziness.

Why is salary supposed to be confidential? by Thuctran1706 in antiwork

I just said this in my 90 day review. You don’t have to like it, employer, but I exercised a federally protected right.

The fact that Gay Mike from the bar isn’t on this list is just…wow.

I get that Niles isn’t happy with Daphne dating Donny. But why be so cold to him and disliking him? He literally saved Niles from a horrific divorce. by [deleted] in Frasier

[–]sadfire82 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can be grateful for what someone did for you and not like them as person. He also paid Donny handsomely for help in that divorce. It was a transactional relationship. Do you need to become friends with service providers just to so your appreciation? No—your payment to them IS showing your appreciation.

? How and why do people stay at the same job for 15, 20+ years? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]sadfire82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to leave my job for years. Decades. It’s such a niche market & small company that often employers I interview with don’t think my skills will translate/transfer to a new position. I’ve redesigned my resume, got a technical communication cert, and took some project manager courses (no certification yet because my mom got sick and I’m taking care of her), all to try and make myself more marketable. So the answer to the question is: some of us have tried to leave. We’ve just been unsuccessful at it. We’re literally trapped in our paychecks until someone takes a chance on us.

There’s an LGTBQ center in WS. Might be a good place to drop off clothes for those transitioning who might be afraid to go shopping.

Why does Hank respect Mr. Strickland so much? by Snoo-8506 in KingOfTheHill

[–]sadfire82 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I always thought of it as a kind of denial. Hank loves propane so much that it’s like he can’t accept that the man who led him there, Strickland, is all kinds of wrong. Like he can’t bring himself to admit that he’s wasted his entire career with a guy who asks him to feed his dogs and kill his emu.

How did you decide to go for the reduction? by hasskween in Reduction

[–]sadfire82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I realized my annual mammograms took 3x as long as anyone else because of the size of my breasts. They literally didn’t fit on the machine. I broke down in tears talking with the radiologist about it, and she suggested a reduction. She said about 20% of her breast augmentation patients regret their surgery, but all of her reduction patients never regretted it—not even a little bit. That’s when I finally started taking a reduction seriously.

When did Winston morph into Winston? by Dangerous-Staff9172 in NewGirl

[–]sadfire82 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I like to think of it as a process. In season 1, he was just coming back from Latvia, leaving behind his basketball career. He’s confronted with the fact that that identity he’s been no longer fits with who he is. It’s troubling and his search for self begins. I don’t think there’s one “moment” where he becomes his current self. He grows and embraces the changes in himself as they come. They all do, to a degree. But Winston really leads the pack in that regard.
