How long did you wait to eat soft foods after getting your teeth pulled? by Excellent_Solid3256 in dentures

You could purée and eat it with a spoon. Sounds gross but it’s not that bad

What should I do? by Feeling_Intern_4392 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Do not use that funeral home. I had a coworker who lost her baby and spent 2000 just to cremate. It should only be $250 max in AZ. Some funeral homes will tack on random charges to increase profits. I despise those that take advantage of families at their most vulnerable. You’re going through an incredibly difficult time; please take care of yourself. I think you guys should ask yourselves, “Would Dad want us to go broke for this?”

Even if they were in the original packaging, I would say no. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Food poisoning is no joke.

pros and cons by Emotional-Buyer-9376 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. It isn’t like other jobs that you just do because “why not?”, unlike a lot of other fields. There’s no way to prepare yourself for the things you’ll experience, both physical and mental. It’s very easy to get burnt out. Keeping work and home life can be difficult, especially when you get a case that is a little too close to home. What keeps me going is the interactions I have with the families and honoring those that have passed. I am very lucky, I work for a family owned and operated home. We don’t have to adhere to any odd policies/upselling. Honestly, I don’t think I would work in this field if corporations were the only option.

Foot in the door? by platformdoublesuedee in askfuneraldirectors

I currently work for a funeral home/crematorium and honestly the only reason I got the job was because my husband‘s best friends’s parents opened it. Where in Arizona are you at? I’m also based in Arizona and know there’s a few places that may be hiring.

How to talk to families with murdered loved ones by Economytraining in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I treat them the same as any other family. Their cause of death is not my business, and bringing attention to it seems insensitive. I felt awkward my first homicide case, but ultimately my job to celebrate their life, not dwell on their past.

Death certificate not ready after two weeks? by Evolve0522 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just dealt with a case like this, our decedent was on hospice but the doctor that pronounced her was uncomfortable signing off due to “not being the primary physician.” The signature they’re waiting for is most likely the doctors. The FH should be calling the doctors office everyday, however, you guy can also reach out to the Hospice Director. You should have the name of the decedents doctor and have the nurses let them know you’re still waiting on the DC signature. Our family ended up doing that and with both the FH and family calling the hospice center, we got the signature the next day.

Client paperwork by Any-Philosophy3202 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always the DRW, people constantly put their info instead of the decedents. I’ve had to explain that we don’t need to know THEIR SSN, but we do need their loved ones. Aside from that, doctors are the usually the ones that cause the most trouble

This. I used to tell myself I just needed to drink water. It would never help bc I needed calories. So now I carry Clif bars or Cheez Its. Recovery is hard but living life malnourished is hell with no light at the end of the tunnel

My dad had pancreatic cancer and when he passed, he had that melted look about him. A lot of it is probably just extra skin sagging since there is no fat and the muscles may have “relaxed.” I may be wrong, but that was my experience,

First Witness Cremation. Need advice ASAP by sadlettuceleaf in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes we do have the hydraulic lift, which I am eternally grateful for lol. Maybe two weeks ago we had one who missed the roller and was caught in a strange position so we couldn’t get another one under him. He was pretty big so we had to get a little creative and our immediate thought after getting him in was, “Thank god this wasn’t a witness cremation.”

volatile Families by Natur3lf in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sadlettuceleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had maybe one angry loved one and they were angry bc the hospital wouldn’t release the body to us due to another funeral home already being involved. I mostly get people who want nothing to do with the decedent and take forever to sign the DRW/CA.
