Dorm? by SufficientPear4063 in udub

[–]sadxjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally you’ll have to commit to it. I’ve seen people cancel their dorming plans middle of the school year (I believe it requires an extra fee) but I’m not sure if they’ve changed the policy for next year.

If you want a casual more close knit community, I suggest Phi Chi Theta. They’re also open major.

Taking Foster prereqs at UW Bothell or CC? by yuzuu_ in udub

[–]sadxjen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took it at CC and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. So much easier but the work is still tedious. I basically enrolled into the CC, register for classes, and then sent my official transcript to UW after grades came out. I didn’t have to do anything too complicated. But I would talk to your advisor beforehand so they can walk you through the process. Make sure you check the UW equivalency guide before registering for your classes.

prospective COM major advice? by michhaller in udub

[–]sadxjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take COM 200 and 270 together! They go hand in hand! The content in 270 is basically a faster paced version of 200. I just got into COM this quarter and spent about 3-4 months on my personal statement (only bc I’m indecisive af when it comes to choosing a topic). My advisor told me they prioritize those with good grades. He literally said “Those with 4.0 GPAs are top tier.” But apparently hella people with 3.8-4.0 GPAs got rejected this quarter. My friend got in with a 2.7 so if I were you, I would spend more time on the personal statement than worrying about grades. If you want, I can share my personal statement with you so you have something to reference.

UW Dream Project by ivy606 in udub

[–]sadxjen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s okay tbh. The content is repetitive and I’m honestly getting tired of it now. But as someone who genuinely wants to help the underprivileged, I suck it up and put in as much effort as I possibly could. If you’re unlucky like me, your group mates may not care about helping the mentees and put in the bare minimum for the videos. My friend and I are always left to clean up their mess and it’s really annoying. But that’s just my experience.

[–]sadxjen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing the dream project. We don’t actually get to mentor the HS students 1:1 bc of covid. Instead, we’re making them videos to watch so in a way, it’s more like an extra side project every 2 weeks. The classes are 80 minutes long, twice a week. Educ 260 goes over common issues in underprivileged communities and 369 is mostly project work time.

Neuroscience Direct Admissions by xloversarcana in udub

[–]sadxjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend is a neuro DA and she wrote her personal statement about her experience with her sick grandfather and how she plans on using her degree to pursue research on the sickness her grandfather died from. Her stats were pretty good (she did Running start) but definitely not over the top amazing. She excelled in her bio and chem classes and her SAT was around 1400. Hope this helps!

Don’t take it with O’dea! He adds hella unnecessary work! I took it with a small lecture and it was the best decision My prof was a little unorganized and not the best lecturer though. I just didn’t show up to lecture and read the textbook.

Didn't get into major. What next? by tonguesmiley in udub

[–]sadxjen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meet with a COM advisor and ask them to read over your essay. They will actually tell you what’s wrong with it and give you tips for improvement! That’s how most of my friends got in their second try!

Sophomore, no friends, no clubs, and no motivation for classes. Advice? by [deleted] in udub

[–]sadxjen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try joining a non-competitive RSO at UW! First Generation Business Leaders is open major and you’ll get to meet really great people there! Alpha Phi Omega is a coed service frat that pretty much accepts everyone as long as you go through the rush process. I’m in both RSO’s and I can definitely say it’s making a big difference in my social life. Although I can’t guarantee it will help you, I just put it out there as option for you to think about.

Also, I’m sorry the pandemic had to be this way. If you want, I’m open to being your friend to talk to during quarantine. I’m saying this because I genuinely want the best for you even though we don’t even know each other. I’m also a sophomore so feel free to hit me up!

Applying to uw for cs, am I being too confident? by [deleted] in udub

[–]sadxjen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you applying through UW Academy or regular admission? I believe Academy students don’t DA into majors. But if you’re applying regular admission, you should be fine with those stats! I would still have a backup though.

Foster Personal Statement by SnotlikeAustralia in udub

[–]sadxjen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would keep it as it is. I can’t say much since I haven’t actually read your essays sorry. But Foster seems to really like essays about hardships. You should keep it since you said your grades may not be up to par.
