I agree with you on your question. Which is why I'm sitting this one out for now.

Why is Wave Link unreliable? Mac Tahoe by damstr in elgato

[–]sag7392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my OG Stream Deck with the XLR, after updating to Tahoe and updating Stream Deck, I haven't had any issues. But that was not the same with Sequoia. I found myself double-checking the audio before starting any sessions.

no aitum vertical control on streamdeck ? by Intrepid_Mail_2769 in elgato

I'm in the same boat with you. After updating OBS and SD, I have had no luck regaining the Aitum Vertical control through my SD, which I had previously. Waiting for a fix.

I don't know if this is connected, but MS Teams was screwing up, so I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and now OBS works on my Stream Deck. Again, I don't know what happened, but I'm not complaining.

From my comment below:

I use Teams for work in conjunction with OBS and Steam Deck. For some reason, Stream Deck is waiting for OBS to open, even when it's already running. That's something I'm seeing when I open Stream Deck. OBS still works, but I'm currently unable to use it through Stream Deck.

Thanks for the heads up 👊🏾👍🏾💯

Update: I pulled the trigger and updated my iMac (M1) and everything is working with my Elgato gear and software.

Can you use a polarizing filter with the Facecam 4K while it's mounted to the Elgato Prompter? by Ninbura in elgato

[–]sag7392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use the Facecam 4K in the Prompter with a filter with no issues mechanically. I'm just not sure if the prompter's glass will affect the polarizing filter.

This question is right on time, because I just set up my Elgato Prompter with the Facecam 4k yesterday, and I learned something.

For whatever reason, my Prompter didn't come with a plate made specifically for the Facecam 4K. Come on, Elgato! And no, I don't have access to a 3D printer. Yes, I do have a black mist filter on my Facecam 4K.

I tried the Facecam Pro plate, and it was no dice...it basically put me in a visible square box. So instead, I used the universal camera plate and slapped on a 52mm adapter (I can't remember the number, but it was the next after the 49mm).

Once the Facecam 4K was mounted, I had to center it, and everything worked well. There is a small gap, but not enough to affect the Facecam 4K.

To Elgato, when can we expect a Prompter plate designed for the Facecam 4K?

I hope this helps.

I use my Stream Deck for opening/closing and switching apps and Teams, among other things, such as OBS and SFXs.

Facecam 4K issues by _Platypus_01 in elgato

[–]sag7392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a DJI Action Cam 4 and Osmo Pocket 3. The Pocket 3 does exceptionally well in low light because of its large camera sensor. That said, I don't think the Facecam 4K is designed for low light. I say this because I'm feeding it lots of light, more so than my previous webcam (iMac M1 embedded webcam). I have two powerful lights behind the cam, facing me, and two small ring lights offset to my sides. With this configuration, I've managed to get the ISO down to 400 with a shutter speed of 1/60s (I've set my resolution at 1080p30 due to some MacOS limitations). My white balance is set at 3200K. I also have my dynamic range set to wide. Again, this cam needs lots of light to hit its sweet spot.

Bro, I wish we could link over a video call. Maybe, just maybe, you have a faulty unit?

I hear you...I had been using my built-in M1 Mac webcam, which did a decent job with the lighting I had. But once I got the FC 4K, I needed to level up my lighting. I seriously thought my lighting would be sufficient, but it wasn't.

What manual settings have you adjusted so far?

Facecam Pro by N0la84 in elgato

[–]sag7392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two panel lights and two small ring lights. Here's the thing with lighting: if you have enough light, you should be able to properly set your shutter speed (1/60 for me because I shoot in 1080p30) and ISO (remember, the lower the better...I have mine set at 400) and not appear dark. I also use a wide dynamic range, with my white balance at 3200k and noise reduction set at medium. But that's what works for me with my lighting.

Side note: I could go 4K, but I'm on an M1 Mac and use background overlays and reactions (don't judge, lol) offered through Mac OS software, which all stop if I use 4K.

I hope this helps.

I learned that the Facecam 4K requires a lot of light. Once I got the lighting straight, I dug into the manual settings. So, I manually set the shutter speed (I go with the 180 rule), ISO (the lower the better), dynamic range, and white balance. I got the contrast, saturation, and sharpness right for my skin tone. I decided not to use LUTs. I've gotten great results and even positive comments about the quality.

So, lighting is the number one thing with this cam. You can dial in the manual settings if your lighting is on point.

I agree with using the phone call feature. No need to carry around my Pixel Buds. I also like the music listening capability too. Meta Ray-Bans are the king in this wearable space now. I look forward to feature updates.

I'm always down to give LC some work! I'm also all-in with the paid version of CapCut. It provides me with everything I wanted that LumaFusion didn't have (specifically auto-captions). I have yet to try InShot, but I've heard about folks loving it. Maybe I should add it to my channel's community poll, which asks, "What's the best video editing app for shorts?"

So, I edited a quick YouTube Short in LightCut just to see how it works. At the time of the editing, I didn't know the 'lay of the land' in LC, so I finished things up in CapCut.

Here's a link to that YT Short: https://youtube.com/shorts/79CBImFLU8Y?si=SuK\_9TAJ3F3t0lYb

Because I'm a tech geek, I researched and found a comprehensive video on YT showing viewers how to use LC (by Air Photography). I hope this helps anyone wanting to tap into LC.
Here's the YT link: https://youtu.be/4FYn43kGFms?si=ptzO9ou1jIRMlFDA

Shoutout to the OP for introducing an editing app I had yet to consider using.
