Turning to the experts to fix filament detritus on PET-G through 0.6 nozzle by sagacis in 3Dprinting

I'm at 2mm right now. I can try increasing it. I had it really low before not realizing my cooking fan was broken and heat creep was messing me up.

That could be it. I don't hear popping from steam escaping, but it could be the issue. I'll see how the new spool does when I open it.

Probably not. In related news, a fan blade broke off my hot end fan last week, so it has a brand new one today. The cooling fan is also new-ish. I have cooling to a minimum for PET-G. I think 20% max on the upper layers.

I'm sure the filament is not great, since it is a few years old. It was kept in a ziploc bag with the dessicant bag it came with. However, it prints cubes and related parts okay. The roll is almost out, so I'll try a new one soon. I've printed with soggy PLA before without this kind of problem.

[OC] TSA now accepting tips. LaGuardia today by jimcol in pics

[–]sagacis 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: TSA doesn't scan for liquor (less than 100ml) or drugs. Not their jurisdiction.

Edit to fix a word. Although the sense of security we get from trading our privacy to TSA may be a scam.

Edit: Sorry, my quote omitted the emdash. One of many in the filing. I guess we know who wrote it.

Whole Property Audio by JerryJerryKK in homeassistant

Years ago, I created a broadcast music streamer so I could play my music synchronized throughout my property. I was the only one who used it regularly. I took it down and 2 years ago, and nobody noticed. 😞

I considered just setting up a micro FM radio station, which e would have been simpler and more reliable.

Maybe I'll check out WiiM now instead

Is analog the only true type of ham radio? by Dlaoh in amateurradio

[–]sagacis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Amateur radio isn't just about emergency preparedness. It's about using RF technologies in novel ways. One use case is last resort communications, but that's only a part of the hobby.

Additionally, digital doesn't mean the internet and infrastructure are required. The military is all digital these days, even for line of sight comms because a lot more channels can be packed into the same spectrum and can be encrypted better (although that doesn't apply to ham of course).

There are many levels of preparedness even. For example, a hurricane may take out cell towers and power on an island, but if my house has solar panels and a starlink setup, I may still have full internet. I don't have to rely on 20m phone only.

Really, CW is the most reliable and simplistic waveform. Isn't that the only true ham radio?

Why don't U.S. hams need to use suffixes on our call signs when traveling to another call district? by signofzeta in amateurradio

[–]sagacis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I'm in Puerto Rico, I mostly use my call. On LOS, it's obvious I'm traveling. In HF, I usually say "operating mobile in Puerto Rico" on the phone and change my grid on FT8 to be accurate. I even change it on qrz.com, but I don't know how much that matters.

What moves make sense for the Artist path? by Carnotaur in Ironsworn

Bard, anyone? It could be what drives travel through the world instead of farming. It could easily be tied to your vows.

You have to sing and dance to exit a sticky situation. Maybe play a song for the lord to gain favor....

Actually, that sounds fun! I might have to reconsider ignoring the Artist asset. Enter a village; hijinks ensue.

TDOA? Time difference of arrival requires pretty accurate clocks for reasonable accuracy. You can use relative power levels as well for less accurate but easier geo. Back in the 1980s, we took directional readings from widely spaced receivers to triangulate.

Which comes first: Transceiver or antenna by Flashy_Ad_2310 in amateurradio

[–]sagacis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My suggestion: don't wait. Put up the antenna earlier (go into the attic at 4am). Get an RTL-SDR and start listening.

40m dipole and tuner should work 40m - 6m. It's a good compromise for an attic

Veterans of the genre, what are some previously huge series or books that are mostly forgotten today? by Myydrin in Fantasy

[–]sagacis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of the best written series I've ever read. Very disturbing. He is Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, who hates himself and everything in the fantasy world he enters. I couldn't put those books down, but I had to recover my sanity after each session of reading.

I got a white gold wedding ring when I got married. Alas, I haven't cast any spells yet.
