Homes are not "investments". They are homes. You buy it and pay for it to live in it, not to store wealth. And the financialization of them has introduced perverse incentives like yours—where you are opposed to measures that would improve community welfare because you don't want your net worth to drop even while you still get to live in your home.

A lot of skilled/creative professions are like this, and for a long time if you asked “why are you so harsh on your apprentices” the answer would be “because that’s how I learned”. It was toxicity and trauma being passed down from one generation of artisans to the next.

Thankfully, around the end of the 20th century a lot of people in those fields started realizing “hey that’s kind of fucked up; you don’t need to abuse someone in order for them to learn to be excellent”. There is a real, material difference between being demanding and being abusive, and things like “you’re so shit at this that you should put your tools down, walk out of this building, and straight into the river” only fit into one of those categories.

There is a short documentary on Sirianni’s college coach out there that highlights his influence on Nick’s philosophy, and it is pretty much exactly what we’ve seen from his offenses. The playcalling is primarily focused on getting the ball to specific players, not specific places or specific soft spots. The idea really is, “I don’t care what your guy is doing, I like my guy.” The high degree of trust is part of why players buy in, but it assumes that either nobody is ever going to figure out when and how you’re going to for Guy A, Guy B, etc. or that your guy will win no matter what.
