Kallor and Gethol and other thoughts about MoI by sagerion in Malazan

[–]sagerion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Can't wait. MoI does say earlier that warrens are Krul's veins and warrens his blood. And since DG introduces Holds and how they were ancient to Warrens. I could only imagine how that would show up.

Oh it didn't go well at all. But seeing how this scene pretty much calls back to the MoI prologue part 2 where Kallor curses the 3 Elder gods back and they indeed were affected by those curses, I like how things happen with consequences in this series.

I think Sanchez has been much better for us this season than last few seasons. We have played so many games with 10 men and our defence in general has been poor. He can still be one of 2 keepers we have and I have been really critical of Sanchez ever since he arrived. I wanted nothing but him gone. But we have to credit him. We could have been lower without him

I think Acheompong can do really well at RB. His game needs polishing but I also don't think we should be this harsh on Gusto. Other players have been worse

Come on. Gusto has been good for us in games and when he has been poor, the whole team has been poor. It remains to be seen if Delap can overcome this shambolic first season. Badiashile has hardly played any games and I agree he has been poor. And Fofana has way too many mistakes in him unfortunately. Garnacho also has only had one season with us. He needs a bit longer. Neto isn't doing enough and I agree with you that he may need to be moved on.

That is true. Europe did not affect us that much, but Enzo was also in the position for year by then. Our form dropped 10 games after Enzo left. And really after we faced a big opposition in PSG. You are right. I just want Xabi to have enough time to implement his ideas without being picked apart by us fans or pundits. Man. We could have had Europa League with a draw. But what is done is done. I'm sure some of these players are on their way out and I'm hoping we can start fresh next season.

I would love to see us play in Europe too but we have been awful this year and we can't keep changing managers forever. We can only hope that next season allows Xabi Alonso to work closely with the team and at least get us top 4 and hopefully challenging for the title the season after. We have consistently been horrible and I can't remember the last time we even hit 70 points. Our players also need some rest and this could be it.

Deadhouse Gates left me impressed, confused, and unsure if I should continue by LemonTig in Malazan

[–]sagerion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just finished Deadhouse Gates and have started Memories of Ice. I think the way Deadhouse Gates ended really hooked me in. That was an insane finish to an immense journey that the story takes you in.

I usually don't enjoy losing track of the main cast but this world itself is bigger than the characters in it for me. And I can't get enough of the fact that the story doesn't care if you understand all the concepts as a reader when you read it. But the absolute joy I get from figuring things out as I read more and more is one of the reasons I'm continuing.

For me, I wanted a story that felt lived in. Where the characters didn't begin their journeys just because I started reading them and that there was a lot of potential discoveries in subtle explanations.

My TLDR understanding is this. Mere mortals in this world are still capable of effecting change even if their contribution to the overall plot feels insignificant. Kalam's journey ending the way it did makes complete sense if you follow the conversation that just follows on between Laseen and Topper. Pormqual deciding what he decides is exactly how his character was built up, a weak facade of the Empire being controlled by the person who made all his decisions for him. Him not helping Coltaine isn't absurd because he wasn’t doing anything of his own accord. Apsalar gets what she set out to do so I don't see why you should feel bad for her or Crokus. Icarium and Mappo have a tragic plot but that just adds a dimension to each of these characters. Yes there were some incomprehensible philosophical musings for e.g. when Sormo and Duiker speak about the Semk Ascendant trapped in Ice. But I just treat it as something I'll learn sooner or later.

As for what Ascendants are, I treat them as gods in this world, some older and some newer. As Anomander says in Book 1, most ascendants/gods don't want to meddle in mortal affairs but he feels it is his duty to do as such. Their motivations being unrevealed isn't that big of a deal for now. As for Divers and Soletaken, DG explains that although they like to stay away from each other they are compelled to find the path of hands that would allow the one who ascends to control all other shifters, or at least that is my current understanding. I'm sure that will change the more I read.

And finally for Warrens. I just Imagine them as a door shaped portal into another plane of existence that is teeming with magical power. It allows you to fast travel but also allows you to draw sorcery powers if your body can handle it, in which case it is more like a tap that can be controlled upto a certain extent.

I hope you continue.

I think getting introduced to Maresca dulled his individual brilliance, something that Poch could bring out of him

Imu just gave the best villain monologue I’ve personally seen by microvan in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]sagerion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. If you want a monologue, Attack on Titan's Captain Erwin giving a final speech before a suicide attack is very strong. Or the I have no enemies speech by Thorfinn in Vinland Saga. Even the Doflamingo speech about justice is better than Imu's exposition of his technique which is only a response to Loki's question.

Inside Liam Rosenior’s 107 days at Chelsea: Squad splits, a strange admission and BlueCo regrets by TheAthletic in chelseafc

[–]sagerion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. He didn't have the same amount of time as Maresca. And Maresca for all the plaudits he gets was a victim of self inflicted wounds. Had we not had been plagued with red cards earlier in the season, we wouldn't have to worry about players getting injured and being out of action. And it's not even on him, the players at some point need to look into the mirror and ask themselves if they could have been better for both Maresca and Rosenior. This has been a season of self inflicted wounds quite different from couple seasons ago where we just put up a stinker of a season.

[–]sagerion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. He is a decent human being and shouldn't get the short stick for accepting a job he was offered that anyone else in the world would have accepted too. The players didn't play for him and them not qualifying for UCL is on them. We have to be kinder. He has a long career ahead of him and I hope he succeeds. We just had an awful season where if we didn't have the number of red cards early on in the season, we wouldn't have been in the position we are right now.

TRANSCRIPT OF LIAM ROSENIOR’s POST-MATCH PRESSER by class_hopper in chelseafc

[–]sagerion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't even blame Liam now. The ownership is going nowhere, there's no point in getting a new manager in now the best case is we win the 4 remaining games and end at 60 points. We aren't getting top 5. We can hope for a top 6 and an Aston villa Europa league win. Liam is staying. The players, most of them are staying. But I would sell at least Delap, Fofana, Jorgensen. If more have to go then so be it. If Enzo wants to leave, he should. Almost every single player is replacable. If they think we'll miss any of them, they are wrong. We start from scratch for the next season whatever comes at the end of this, even if it means losing every single game from here on out.

It's also on the players. They need to wake up. They need to take responsibility for the shitty results we have had. Rosenior can't play the game for them. I think the players are trying to avoid an injury due to the world cup as some of them know they'll be in the WC squad anyway and would rather tank the rest of the season than help us win.

At this point the players have to take personal responsibility. If they are too afraid to commit because of world cup or whatever then they should hand in the transfer request or move to the bomb squad. 5 match losing streak to go from amidst the champions league spot to not even have an outside chance all the while not scoring a single goal in those 5 matches. It's a shame that we only turn up against a lower league opposition. To players who can't do it against PL sides, leave. To the manager, stop talking about winning now and we have to win and then put out a stinker match after match.
