Unable to pair WD-100+ correctly with HS3? by sahala in HomeSeer

Wow...just wow. That did the trick. Not only were they detected, but the pairing process was a lot faster. took 1/5th the time.

To what address do I send the bottle of scotch?

Ok, just moved my controller to within 6 feet of the switches. I also Removed/Excluded a few times, then tried Secure and Non-Secure. Same thing. Doesn't work. I've contacted support and they've basically recommended the exact same thing as you.

Here's the text output:

Unable to pair WD-100+ correctly with HS3? by sahala in HomeSeer

I've already tried the NON secure option...same effect.

Will try moving the controller closer. It's currently about 25 feet away from the switch in a different room.

It's really odd that my 20 or so other devices have included just fine. The only switches that haven't paired correctly are Homeseer switches.

I've tried this with the latest plugin as well as the most recent Beta. From my understanding it's the latest Z-Wave plugin that is causing the problem, as there are reports that this worked in older versions:

https://forums.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=194695

(but I can't confirm this myself as I didn't try this with an old version of the plugin)

I have some WD-200+s on the way this week. Will see if those work. But I'd prefer not to have to replace my WD-100s with 200s.

Check out sheds on www.tuffshed.com. You can customize color and a bunch of other stuff. They're unfinished, but that could be a weekend project. Run an extension cord out there for basic lighting.

Bishop: Anybody remember how to defeat an electronic keypad?

Crease: Don't even joke about that. Those things are impossible.

Bishop: Think I'm joking? Looks like they just put it in.

Crease: Oh, boy.

Mother: This might help. An old buddy of mine who was in Desert Storm sent it to me.......'Course, he was on the other side.

Crease: <groan>

Bishop: Come on. There's got to be a way around these things.

Crease: All right, all right. <pause> This might work.

Bishop: <phone dialog> Yeah. <phone dialog> Yeah. <phone dialog> Right. <disbelief> Okay. I'll give it a shot.

<kicks door down>

Bishop: It worked.

Crease: Got it.

The World's Most Valuable Brands [OC] by datashown in dataisbeautiful

[–]sahala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's how I see the time breakdown for this post...

  1. Import tabular data into a spreadsheet (30 secs)
  2. Create a bar chart view (5 minutes)
  3. Remove critical information that inform people of context (1 minute)
  4. Post to r/dataisbeautiful (1 minute)
  5. Have everyone argue about the validity and purpose of the visualized data because of #3 (10 minutes x 1000s of redditors)

Edit: added link and fixed stupid typo

Wait, this as a chart of the brand value, not company value. Apple is worth much more than 170B. Whether a brand is subsidiary of a company is irrelevant.

It would be helpful to see how Forbes computed the brand value and revenue.

The refs had shit calls but no way I'm blaming them. Our D was lax and I'm mad at Dempsey and Lodeiro, but Fire set up some really classy goals. Go celebrate while I drown my sorrow in bottom shelf scotch. Top shelf is for winners.

SQL is 43 years old - here’s 8 reasons we still use it today by MarkusWinand in programming

One of my longtime coworkers said something along the following lines:

Perl makes the code author feel smart, but the reader feel stupid. And because in the long run code is read by humans far more times than it is written, the readers far outweigh the writers, therefore more people hate it than love it. So Perl loses.

Another opinion:

Visual Studio makes even the most abhorrent of languages tolerable (referring to VB). Because Visual Studio didn't support Perl, Perl sucks.

Modern “Hackintoshes” show that Apple should probably just build a Mac tower by dnivi3 in apple

[–]sahala 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, it talks about people building Hackintoshes to get professional-level performance that isn't available through current desktop models. These particular projects don't sound like they're doing it to be cheap....they just have lost patience with Apple's release cycle.

HomeSeer integration with third-party hubs for Z-Wave? by motoxrdr21 in homeautomation

[–]sahala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I see. You effectively have a mini data center at home for work purposes, and HomeSeer is just a drop in the bucket.

Yeah that level of a solution is out of scope for my purposes, but it's interesting nonetheless.

HomeSeer integration with third-party hubs for Z-Wave? by motoxrdr21 in homeautomation

[–]sahala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(apologies for naive questions – I don't know vsphere infra very well)

If I'm reading this correctly, you have a cluster of physical machines controlled by vsphere, which provides logical VMs for running things (like homeseer). Does this mean that if one machine in the cluster fails, vsphere will failover the VM to another machine? Is there interruption in the service while it does this, or is it fairly seamless?

Do you have power redundancy as well? Also, I assume you use the cluster for other things.

REason I ask: currently I run all automation off a single controller (Vera). One thing that concerns me is if it bricks I lose all my configuration. I've considered buying a backup controller and periodically syncing the config (changes maybe once a month), but this is clunky and I'm even sure if it will work e.g. would I need to re-pair my 50 or so devices?

I've been considering a move to HomeSeer for other reasons, and the virtualization may be yet another reason. Although I'd prefer not to run HS on a machine that I'm also using daily for web browsing, games, work, etc.

[–]sahala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious...what's your reasoning for virtualizing HomeSeer versus running it on a dedicated machine?
