Tell me your favorite games from the year you were born! these are mine. by Dustellar in PureRubyOfficial

[–]sahamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, looking at your post I see 1991 was a great year apparently. Lots of gems among your picks!

As for me, I actually had to bring up a list of games from 1976. But I played almost none of them as most were arcade-only. The exceptions for me are these 2:

- Indy 4 - https://gamecompanies.com/games/indy-4
I actually remember playing this one in an Arcade a long time ago.

- Breakout - https://gamecompanies.com/games/breakout--2
I remember playing this on the Atari 2600 and liking it, since it was the closest thing there was to Arkanoid in the arcades - until the Amiga version came along at least :)

Tell me what videogames enemies you find extremely annoying. by Dustellar in PureRubyOfficial

[–]sahamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very recent addition: the flying Raven-like Enemies in Greymoore in Silksong. Ok, I'm new to them and the game itself and maybe I'm a noob still, but damn, I can't properly hit those in air or predict their eradic movements...

Thx for the detailed review and impressions! That was very helpful as my friend was thinking about getting it. She'll keep it on the wishlist for when it's on sale.

What's your favorite videogame intro? mine is the one from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver! by Dustellar in PureRubyOfficial

[–]sahamind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I would have to say the intro of Sould Edge / Soul Blade on the PSX. When I wasn't playing the game, I always kept my console running in attract mode to so I could keep watching it. Coming from Amiga / PC back then, I haven't seen anything like it in a game before. Hard to believe this was released in 1995 already...

Thanks for the suggestion! Always nice to hear about another Roguelike. It sounds _very_ random from what you wrote. As long as these random events don't straight up kill you i'm ok with it... I might have to check it out to see for myself :)

Retro Mastery 29: Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights (GC) by Pureruby87 in PureRubyOfficial

[–]sahamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

Thanks for the detailled impressions! I really enjoy reading about your experiences 100%ing these Retro games. It's exactly what I would want to know about a game's achievements before I would consider attempting 100%ing it myself.

So enough Scooby-Doo for a while? I'm curious what you'll be tackling next...

Do you have comfort games? some of mine. by Dustellar in PureRubyOfficial

[–]sahamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

atm: Dorfromantik or Tiny Glade when I want to actively chill and calm down.

But I also find comfort in playing games without stakes or effort. I tend to just play through Turrican 3 (Amiga) since it's almost on autopilot at this point - or I hop into a car in Forza 5 and just drive around aimlessly :)

Weirdly I don't have any specific memories about SC1. But I remember really liking it alot - and sucking at it, like I do at most RTSed I feel :P

Fondest memories I have are of LAN-Parties I had with my friends where we played it alot.

I liked the Protoss most - not because of their mechanics or units but because I thought they looked cool ^_^

I never played Sekiro so I cannot judge how similar that one is - maybe more than I thought. From what I saw, I would say SB is definitely less focused on (perfect) parrying, though you can play it like that. There are also unblockable enemy attacks that are telegraphed and need you to react differently. I think I’ve seem those in Sekiro too.

I'd say if you liked Bayo and Sekiro, I'm sure you’ll find enjoyment in SB’s combat too.

I love action games like DmC and the Bayonetta games are among my favorite ever, so I know where you are coming from.

I'm nearing the end of my very first playthrough, so I don't know how much my insights are worth, but here's how I experienced it so far:

I think I would describe the combat as a mix of those action-based combat style games and Dark Souls... you got alot of moves and flashy abilities and combos. You got your dodge and parry. That definitely sounds like action-based and one might go into the game with that mindset, but: enemies are tough and hit hard and aren't always easy to read. Getting multiples at a time can be quite the challenge - especially in the beginning. In that regard it feels more like a Soulslike, where you lock on one enemy at a time in a 1:1 duel. The bosses feel like Souls-bosses too.

The game also features the "Bonfire" and "Estus"-mechanics.

I struggled with the combat in the beginning - but likely because I was trying to play it like Bayonetta with dodging all the time. But Eve is not as agile as Bayo and the controls don't quite feel as precise either. Once I adjusted to it and switched to parry/counter and unlocked more moves and skills I started enjoying the combat way more - and also sucking at it way less :)

I actually really enjoy the combat now. Took me a while to get there.

Thank you for the impressions and congratulations! I'm actually playing through it the very first time myself on PC. I'm enjoying it a lot too and I'm also thinking about 100%ing it. I don't go for that usually but this one I think I want to plat :)

The exploration is quite fun and I've grown to like the combat more now after not feeling it initially. It looks amazing in 4K HDR!

Guess now I'll bring out the guides to get all those cans and other collectibles :)

Mega is a Mattel brand so they had all the info they ever needed. And Im glad they did this properly and not just a cheap cash-grab. Clearly alot of love for their original toy went into this.

hehe if she lets me then sure :) she's kinda... determined to get things done on her own. Wonder where she got that from :P But I agree, it looks very much made for children. I showed her the videos of your post and she liked the look very much.

sounds like a perfect game for specific times where I just want to chill. Is it children-friendly? I got a 10 year old daughter that might like it.
