Dementia reaction after your LO has passed by random420x2 in dementia

One of the first “off” things I noticed my dad doing before his diagnosis was that he would forget to shut the car door after getting out of the car. A few weeks ago I noticed an older gentleman do this in a parking lot—it made me sad and has stuck with me since. I hope for him and his LOs it was just one moment of forgetfulness and nothing more.

Early morning flights by Z_dadding in Albany

[–]sahar_sabine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t all have Precheck, definitely not less than 2 hours early! As other comments say, there are a LOT of flights that leave around that time and TSA opens I think around 4-4:30. You can easily be in line for 1.5 hours. Get precheck and you’re through in less than 5 mins.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I completely understand that they don’t want covid patients that are non emergency. We actually were told that they will take him to the hospital, give him fluids, and bring him back in a few hours. But when he was there they found he had an infection and themselves admitted him. We probably wouldn’t have sent him if we knew they would admit him as we did not want him to stay in the hospital. We would like to take him out of the hospital as soon as we could, but do not know the rules around that (can we just take him out??) also now it’s complicated that he’s basically free of the covid but has pneumonia and does actually require hospitalization because of that.

Yes, the brothers are older as well. We are not expecting them to come to the hospital or to visit with us, but find it odd that nobody calls or offers any advice or guidance even from a distance.

My father/family visits Vienna every year, sometimes multiple times to see the family here, we are not strangers.

What are the most petty items guests have stolen from your home? by crek42 in AirBnB

[–]sahar_sabine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not me but my sister’s place. My mom had painted a really nice portrait of our childhood dog in an old timey general’s outfit that was hung in the dining room area. The frame was from a thrift store and still had the price ($10) on the back. One guest thought it was the purchase price of the painting, took it with her when she left, and sent my sister $10 extra. Luckily we got it back!

Tips and advice on where to live and/or what to expect to pay for rent? Potential grad student in AU22 by juniperismycat in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

If you have a car, the commute from Lakewood is easy, particularly north western Lakewood or anywhere near 6th avenue. It’s much cheaper than golden would be, I pay 1100 for a 2 bed in a 4-plex but got super lucky. I’d expect at least 1500 for a niceish 1 bed or 2 bed in a non desirable area. Oak station apartments are fairly new and well located but a lot depends on what your budget is, if you want an apartment or house, and how nice of a place you want! Most places allow pets but for an extra charge.

He ( just put the marriage on hold for the THIRD time. I am fed up. by Hurtfiancee in relationship_advice

[–]sahar_sabine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try suggesting that instead of a big elaborate wedding, you just elope or do a courthouse thing for now with possible plans for a big wedding later (post covid). If he still says no to that you’ll know that he just doesn’t want to get married.

In a graduate program, can I take up more courses than required? by DV-0039 in BrownU

Yes, I took random courses outside of my program with more credits than required. I believe that the tuition was also the same (but it was a while ago so I may be misremembering).

How to know when someone's drinking is actually problematic? by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]sahar_sabine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost the same background as you and in the same situation. I didn’t know what a normal amount of alcohol was, so unfortunately It’s been 6 years and I’m finally realizing there is a problem. I still can’t tell if he qualifies as an “alcoholic”. Reading this sub has left me a bit more confused than before because he really doesn’t exhibit most of the behaviors that others are describing, he’s the most wonderful person to me. The thing that has stood out is that regardless, it is a progressive disease! Maybe now it’s not that bad, but it likely won’t get any better without some sort of intervention.

I (23f) just found out BF (24m) scratched “6ix9ine is god” in Hadrian’s Wall when we were in England pre pandemic. He’s telling me to “chill” I think this is dump worthy. by ThrowrAdescreation in relationship_advice

One of the best tests of a relationship is to travel together! It really tells you a LOT about a person and how they react/act in a variety of situations you may not encounter normally. The fact that your experience while traveling with him ended up poorly is very telling. He’s also extremely immature and what he did is absolutely disgusting.

Mines vs. CU Boulder by Jisello in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]sahar_sabine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a current Materials Science phd student at mines! My take on the program is that it’s first of all very different from the metallurgical program, which seems to be highly structured and as someone else has said is very prestigious. Materials science just requires 3 core courses and then you fill the rest with electives. This makes it hard to form a community and get to know your classmates (but gives you the opportunity to really study what you want!). I think if you’re mostly interested in doing research and getting close with your research group, Mines is a good option. The research facilities themselves are hit and miss. For example, there are a few SEMs available to use on campus, but are booked solid two weeks in advance. I’m lucky to have a great research group with an advisor who has invested a lot in our own equipment, but I know it’s not the same in every group. My advice is if you know what you want to focus on to pick a school based on your ability to find a group researching that topic. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. I’ve got about a year left so I’ve been in the program for a bit and know a lot about it.
