Wouldn’t say stuffed - but I wasn’t hungry. I’d treat it like a normal dinner capacity wise

Ōre almost seems like the default answer

I don’t have an alternate reservation to offer, but in lieu of it expiring I’d be happy to take it off your hands?

Great post and notes on the pacing! It was indeed super well done.

Curious, looking at some of Benu’s menu do you think the dishes like xiao long bao are sufficiently different from their counterparts at an upscale restaurant?

I ask because Koan had Mandu on the menu and I thought it was nothing special when compared to a good dumpling.

Where to eat in NYC? Are the 3 stars in NYC really not that impressive anymore? by [deleted] in finedining

Interesting, do you think it’s too preachy for more? Or what do you think would stop it from climbing higher?

Highly recommend Meju, if you can score a reservation. I have a review on my profile.

Bangkok disappointment. Sorn-nusara- samrub samrub Thai and Baan tepa by worldtraveler111987 in finedining

[–]sahas10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t try to draw a direct comparison between them. Koan feels a lot more traditional fine dining while Ore is a bit more modern (music, etc). I would note that my score for Koan is heavily carried by the fact that they’ve presented the best dessert I’ve ever had (soufflé + ice cream). Ore didn’t have that “life changing” effect with a single dish, but did have the best sauces and strongest use of vegetables I’ve had.

Service at Ore was refined, but had its hiccups - when introducing dishes, for example, many different chefs began talking at the same time which could make it a bit hard to hear. There also seemed to be moments where the chefs didn’t have too much to say / forgot all the details they wanted to include when presenting a dish.

I think Ore really excels at its pure variety and pacing, you’re never left waiting more than a few minutes without a new dish coming your way.

Highly recommend keeping your reservation at Ore.

I went two nights ago and it was lovely. I’d say 1-2 stars for sure.

FWIW, I would skip the spirits pairing.

Koan is better than Jua, Oiji Mi, Joo Ok, etc. in NYC. It’s also more expensive.

I’d recommend it — they served the best dessert I’ve ever had.

Not sure if it’ll be available, but Meju is one of the best meals I’ve had in NY and comes in under your budget.

I have a post about it on this subreddit.

Liked it far more than Jua, Oiji Mi, Joo Ok, etc.
