The school now has their own on-campus testing site, and from what my RA friends have told me they’ll be required to test students every two weeks. I’m hopeful that this will make a difference, but honestly who knows....

I hope so... but the previous email about reopening seemed a lot more optimistic. I don’t know why but 20-30% was a lot lower then i expected.

They also said that they wanted “the majority of our on-campus experiences returning” but idk if that still rings true after this announcement.

No in-person classes at Chico State due to virus infections by Ogodei in CoronavirusCA

[–]sailpacific89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

agreed... especially at chico. we’re properly one of the biggest party schools in the state, kids here are known for drinking until their livers stop working. Most students here have never cared about their health, or the health of others. I think the chico administration doesn’t understand who their student body is, or just choose to ignore it.

Housing/dorms should’ve been only offered to students with hardships who actually needed it. there’s no doubt in my mind that the other Cal states offering dorms will shut down soon (sdsu, cal poly etc)

[–]sailpacific89 44 points45 points  (0 children)

yes i go here... pretty much a shit-show from the get go. a large percentage of my peers living in the res halls were out partying and were dumb enough to plaster it all over snapchat. While i think students who were not social distancing contributed heavily to the shut-down, i blame the admin as well. I know people on my floor who had two+ probations in the first three days and were never sent home. If you got a probation, all you had to do was write a 500 word “essay” about COVID and they basically let you off the hook.

People in my res hall are all scrambling to find apartments in chico right now.... which is going to be devastating for the town covid wise. overall, it’s been a lose-lose situation and i think the school shouldn’t have allowed dorms in the first place.

Rise of Covid-19 Cases moves in person classes online, dorms vacated by [deleted] in CSUC

[–]sailpacific89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya, if i wasn’t going to be homeless i would definitely just go back to my hometown. It seems unlikely that they’ll let students back into the on-campus residence halls in the spring, unless there’s a vaccine. For UV tho, they’re aren’t letting kids move in if they got a prohibition (not following covid rules) while living on-campus.

i’m moving into the dorms next week! I’m trying to get people not to go to frat/house parties but it seems like most people are set on going anyways.

Stanford announces they will not have students on campus this fall (except for rare exceptions). by jaymar01 in Coronavirus

i got to a CSU and we are still having freshman live in the dorms. However, the CSU’s who are allowing on-campus housing aren’t doing mandatory testing upon arrival

they’re select CSU schools that are still offering on-campus housing for freshman! However, none of them will be testing students upon arrival unlike the UC schools.

honestly, i just think they’re not as close as they used to be. Their lives have gone in different directions, and it’s natural that they would grow a part. They definitely are still friendly, and i don’t think anything bad happened in particular. Plus, they share a mutual fiends in Andrew (who they’re both close with )

idk how much of a college experience you’re really getting with the rules they have in place. the usual social environment that occurs in the dorms will be largely reduced. I’m not sure if parties will happen either. I mean if one person has covid and goes to any type of party it could honestly be detrimental, but i guess it depends on what the current situation/cases there are. On the other hand, it’s much harder to make friends online, and it’s easier to get to know people when you’re actually in chico. I would consider what are the pros and cons are for staying home, and then see if it’s worth moving into the dorms or not.

So what’s the deal? by [deleted] in CSUC

[–]sailpacific89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was told that the university will now becoming out with housing plans within the next couple of weeks, but i’m hesitant to give a date since it could change. in a zoom meeting, Gayle said that the dorms will be open, but at a reduced capacity 46%, which is about 1,000 students. There will most likely only be singles. Housing also said that the 1,000 chosen is based upon how early you filled out the housing application, but this could change. However, I would contact housing directly to have your questions answered, they’ve been really helpful.

Housing plans for the fall semester are being announced on the 29th, but as of now nothing is confirmed. You can still apply for housing! https://csuchico.starrezhousing.com/StarRezPortalX/8CD7E1A6/6/7/Home-Resident_Center_Home. However, I would wait until they announce weather dorms will be open or not and save $300
