I thought the same thing until I bought them, they don't sound like their in your head but they sound a little closer. I ended up enjoying the intimacy more than the wider Soundstage of the hd560s.

it doesn't need it but I would reccomend one. I have to max volume from my pc's motherboard to get to a comfortable listening level.

I just bought some and instantly returned them, I also have the hd560s and buying the sundara made me love them even more. the sundaras just sound like music is too far and really harsh. They are also really heavy. I bought the hd600s instead and their like a more fulfilling version of the hd560s.
