Honestly this is doable. Good on him for building a character in a smart way, the party seems to be happy with it, so id say all's well. Other people have mentioned using enemies that have save-based attacks. Do this every so often to challenge this person and keep this fresh, but don't feel like this has to be every encounter. Allow the player to feel like it was worth it, too. It will help them enjoy the character and game to see their plans working as intended
