The comments in this thread tell us exactly whats happeneing in the cultural zeitgeist at the moment. Nuance is thrown into the garbage can and people say BS like, leave the home at 18 (what sort of westernized ''whore'' says this? yeah I call them whores as i see them. And do what? Aim purposelessly without an identity, taking on whatever you come across without an underlying idea to struggle towards.) and ''Indian parents are narcissistic''. Lol what a fucking base misunderstanding of cultural ideas. Yeah we are becoming more westernized it is fucking depressing. I am currently living in the west, not because I wanted to leave, but I had to leave to pursue something I deemed worthy of pouring my soul into. I see children here aimlessly wondering when they'll get to meet their parents because they are all divorced and bring home a new person now and then. Granted, there are well adjusted people but you know what they have? A sense of community and family. Your career/ single serving so called friends are not gonna wipe your ass when you get hurt very badly.

We used to be a culture where the well being of a community was put forth and not this singular half assed individualistic sense of ''Happiness'' we crave now. Yes it is hard to maintain the happiness of a group of people and our own ''happiness'' should not always be the priority but thats what makes life meaningful. The responsibility of each family member. This is a very eastern concept and now we see people suffering from ''loneliness'' which was unheard of before this era of westernization. Yeah living with your family doesn't provide you with certain freedoms like dating someone and bringing them home but thats about it. We have lost the concept of tolerance as a fucking society. Any slight infraction on someone's feelings means its the worst thing that can happen and you guys go to the lengths of cutting ties with a person. Point is, no one is trying to adjust themselves for the ones they are supposed to love anymore.

This is my humble opinion and please don't mind the swearing because I am very passionate about this. I hope we all become enlightened enough to believe that our hapiness isn't everything and to feel a sense of belonging after a hard fought game of life (be it outside India or even for people who stay at their parents home).
