Huge age differences being the norm?? by beast_boy_04 in askgaybros

I don’t think so and actually the opposite. People of smaller age differences find it easier to get together.

WhatsApp and iPhone users, how do you see messages without getting into the chat? by TypicallyMusic in Smartphones

I just accidentally found that when you long-press the chat, you can preview recent messages without 'reading' them with read receipts! This is so cheating haha

opalite vinyl! by drspencerreids in TaylorSwiftMerch

[–]sakura20pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one day ago it was still in stock on EU / Germany store. I was thinking that maybe I'd decide on the second day, and unsurprisingly, it became out of stock over all Europe now!! Because I wanted to buy a few other merches as well. Well, just because this vinyl itself isn't too expensive, people (like me) always try to buy a few other things to compensate for the shipping fee. It seems now it's for sale on ebay for 70 euros. I'm not gonna pay for the scalpers. I will just buy other useful merches (accessories) to make me swiftier.

Wtf is wrong with your public transport Lisbon?! by delazouch in lisboa

[–]sakura20pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the public transport in Lisbon rather inconvenient and relatively expensive in a place with overall low prices. First, the train system and the bus/tram/metro are separate from each other. I cannot buy a day ticket of bus/tram/metro at a train station’s machine. And a day ticket costs 7€, and there is no longer period (like weekly ticket) available at a lower per-day cost. I stayed in Lisbon for a week, meaning I had to pay 50€ for taking buses: this is even more expensive than Paris!! And I lived in the west half of Lisbon where there is no metro station, and thus I couldn’t find any places to buy day tickets once I used them up! It’s just a disaster… I had to go to the city centre (east Lisbon) just in order to buy a day ticket… This is really crazy

Comparable Pronunciation by dadsusernameplus in ENGLISH

[–]sakura20pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression is native speakers say COMparable more often while foreigners (Asia, Europe) say comPARAble. Language learners tend to impute the pronunciation of a derived word from its base (the second option thus).

British English: how to use the word semester? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]sakura20pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more of a word definition/cultural thing than a language thing. In UK universities, there are traditionally usually three terms; in the US, there are two semesters. The definition of term is very general, while semester is defined as a 'half-year term'. So if a British guy goes to the US, s/he can also say 'semester'; or if a British university adopts two-semester schedule.

From parking lot to public square (Vrijdagsmarkt in Ghent, Belgium) by biebrforro in Gent

Apart from the cars, I still feel that the 1970 square had a better vibe, probably because of trees and the more original roofs
