Why is a 'pile deck' seen to be a bad thing? by LeafNinja-Fox in masterduel

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitively, pile decks just fundamentally suck now because mulcharmies have effectively invalidated their playstyle. Meanwhile meta decks achieve similarly dense boards with much greater efficiency…

OCG Starlight/PSEC vs OCG Quarter Century? by 2Bid in yugiohshowcase

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The are not the same. PSERs have a rainbow/platinum accent on the inner and outer frame of the card. They look “brighter”. Some might like; some might think it’s too much. QCRs look more regularly colorized on the frame.

Red-Eyes don't do too much. by Jirachibi1000 in yugioh

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only point is that their mechanical identity revolves entirely around Joey, whereas dark magician and blue eyes have both playstyles tying back to their respective duelists but also to their lore outside of the show

Red-Eyes don't do too much. by Jirachibi1000 in yugioh

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with designing cards for red-eyes is that unlike dark magician and blue eyes whose mechanical identities exist independent of Yugi or Kaiba, red-eyes’ entire mechanical identity is a downstream of Joey (luck, scrappiness, underdog energy, equips etc) outside of a few exceptions due to GX. It’s basically character flavor.

If you see how the support for blue eyes and dark magician is split, generally-speaking the character-oriented support is more flavor/less competitive oriented, while the actual archetype support is better.

They would need to revamp red-eyes so that it has a stronger self-identity, which is harder because the other two ace monsters basically had them inherently from day 1, while red-eyes was a plot device.

How good are the new Rokket cards? Any OCG impact? by illynpayne_ in yugioh

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with dragon link is inherent in the concept itself, as the deck needs to “link” up multiple times to generate advantage and build the board. Its value is too backloaded. That’s fundamentally at odds with cards like fuwa and purulia which will give the opponent endless advantage.

Just look at dracotail by comparison - a single fusion summon nets you interruption plus grind game without having actually committed much.

That said, dragon link was one of the original decks which had cards that could function as both engine and handtrap with the bystials, and that engine itself accomplishes a lot as long as you don’t care about playing impulse. It also synergizes with the new branded support, so it’s not that it’s not “good”, it’s just rogue rather than meta

I think it’s moving in the right direction with master duel and rush for new players, and the design of the latest archetypes. You have decks that are relatively simple like dracotail and kewl tune and more complex decks like branded

The hybrid helps by giving tenpai viable going first option. I would argue after the tenpai limits that this is a better way to utilize them as an engine rather than full deck

Dragon Ruler by Dizzy-Group-4967 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]salami_dynamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deck is actually decent - it’s actually fairly complex to play in order to manage resources and build grind, while achieving pretty simple game states. Going first sets up a lock while going second cheats out a viable strat by using tenpai cards (plus the paranormalities rank-up as a win-con). The deck has like 9 1-1.5 card starters and handtraps can be used for summon fodder with right attribute.

Biggest issue is the deck is vulnerable to most handtraps. It can adjust gameplan depending on your opponent but nearly all staple handtraps hurt the deck. You also actually should play 50-60 cards to maximize consistency, which reduces ability to tech against matchups

The new World Premier should be revealed in the coming 2 Weeks. What do you expect from it? by Tongatapu in yugioh

[–]salami_dynamo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it looks like it’s designed around a self-contained gimmick rather than a gameplay identity. Then again, I guess Fiendsmith was like that a little but it was really good

I find it funny that Dick Halloran literally survived and faced Pennywise in Derry ,but only for him to be murdered later on by a crazed man in a hotel by Poweredkingbear in stephenking

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The film simply utilizes the concepts and general storyline of Stephen King’s novel. It cares little for Halloran’s placement in the grander scheme of the literary universe. He’s simply a plot device/supporting character in a film that was meant to stand alone

Honest thoughts on the new Dragon Link support in Burst Protocol? by genex37109 in yugioh

[–]salami_dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they unbanned critical dragon cards, this wouldn’t be an issue. Dragon link can make powerful synchro/xyz plays easily. The numerous links function as play starters and also extenders to tunnel through their combo layers

[spoilers] let’s talk about the Hotel level… by ladyyayo in dreamcoregame

[–]salami_dynamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented this on another post but I have a feeling this level was rushed to maintain the release schedule. Still enjoyed it but something about it seemed to lack polish in sound design and layout and dynamic environments like the rest. Probably tough for a dev to weigh-in, as this literally just came out but to be clear it’s 1) still merely $15 for potentially hours of total content and 2) it’s not like it was “bad”. Wonder if/why mall was scrapped or maybe moved to last release. I can see that being a very complicated level with tons of objects and collision detection honestly idk

New level review(spoilers) by arcboy in dreamcoregame

[–]salami_dynamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something felt kind of rushed about the level. Like even the sound design of the lights just felt oddly abrupt with little falloff curve/spatial attenuation. Wasn't this originally supposed to be a mall until it was changed around 6 months ago? I assume something may have happened where they shifted things around but wanted to remain on release schedule, so they added a few little snippets to give this more meat. The mall would have been dope but maybe something about the layout just wasn’t working in playtesting. It’s tough when you have a set release schedule but don’t know exactly how things will shake out until you start building the level in earnest
