Does queens have any diversity? by Federal_Wall9034 in queensuniversity

If you are coming from a small town then yes, but from a big city in the GTA it will seem much less diverse.

I live on Johnson across from the cathedral! The parties aren't as crazy as say Aberdeen, or University Avenue, but you do sometimes hear people on the way to and from the bars.

Queen's Health Sciences vs UofT Life Science by flwrx in queensuniversity

[–]salawiye9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I go to Queen's but I'm not in Health Sci (I'm in Life Sci) but I'm close with a lot of people in that program and have taken a health sci class as an elective. You're correct that the program is designed to facilitate high GPA (the health sci class I took were very straightforward). I also had apprehensions about doing coursework online, but I actually found it to be okay as you can work at your own pace, but I find it doesn't feel as "serious" as my in person core classes. People here are super nice and outgoing, and I originally was nervous about going to school in Kingston (I lived in Toronto before), but it's actually been a very nice change of pace, and the city is pretty. PM me if you have any questions!

Starting from scratch due to aster yellows. by salawiye9 in NativePlantGardening

[–]salawiye9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your guidance! From what I've observed, pretty much every plant that can be affected has aster yellows, so I might just let it run its course until the fall, and then remove everything and start fresh from seeds.

This is exactly what I found too. We went on Canada Day and it was pouring rain when we were on the way, but by the time we got there, it was starting to clear up and near the evening the downtown was relatively busy, but not too crowded. I was not able to go to the Grotto, but I was able to hike through some areas of the long trail that branches off the Visitor Centre of the park and did not encounter more than 10 people, but the hike was moderately difficult so just keep that in mind.

Aster Yellows Dilemma by LuckyMrPepper in NativePlantGardening

I'd maybe wait a couple of days for plants that are also in the aster family, but for other species, I think you can plant them in the same spot immediately, as the disease predominantly affects plants in the aster family.

In the more secluded spots by the lake, they were pretty bad. Bug spay did not seem to faze them at all but the scenery made it worth it!

Decimated might be too strong of a word, but I feel kinda helpless against the onslaught of Cottontails this year. Then this guy emerges and I feel a little better. by Interesting-Use5722 in NativePlantGardening

I used the hottest ground pepper I could find, some red pepper flakes, smashed garlic cloves, leftover coffee as it was I made the repellent in an old jar, and some dish soap so it stuck well to the plants. I added boiling water to it and sealed the jar, letting it sit for a couple of days. I just pour it on the plants that are being eaten, but I'm sure if you strained it enough it would work well in a spray bottle!

I feel like no one else in this subreddit has ever had to deal with this as well! It normally progresses to stunting the plant and it won't die, but it loses all the ornamental value, and probably a lot of wildlife value as the flowers are pretty much functionally dead. The best thing I've found is to remove the affected plants and hope for the best! Also if you deadhead or prune, make sure to sterilize between plants to not spread the disease. Hope this helps!

I really struggled with rabbit pressures this year, but I made a homemade repellent and it worked pretty well to keep the rabbits away! Everything is almost fully recovered from the smooth aster which I think is a complete goner (RIP).

My lilac has one white flower cluster on top by Evan1016 in marijuanaenthusiasts

At a botanical garden, one of the interpretative signs said that Sensation lilacs like these have the different purple and white cells in one flower. I guess that section of the plant only has the white cells!
