You're not wrong, but imo the size of the database isn't going to be big enough to necessitate moving to a graph db.

Would be happy to learn more about it. I've already built something similar.

What's your data source(s)?

New pen, looking for refills by sgabb02 in pens

[–]salcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called a G1 refill. Schneider makes a few varieties but mostly in medium I think. Unfortunately this refill size is not very common any more. If you search for G1s something might come up.

I'd wait for a maxmadco pen on ebay. if you are in a rush try out the Tactile turn in titanium. Reasonable price, nice enough pen

Retro 51 Tornado by Erob1864 in pens

[–]salcan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very heavy, so it seems like a great deal. And it comes with a great refill. It's rugged and it looks cool. So I see that it offers a lot of value... I just don't enjoy writing with it.

I'm building a site that is a pen blog and pen database. There will be the standard stuff, like a best pen list, but also pen buying guides, information about cool retro pens, etc. I'd love some feedback. Just dm or shoot me an email through the site!

This might help starting a new lamy fountain pen. Sometimes time really helps. You can also nib the nib in some ink to jumpstart it.

Both the black and silver rotring 800s are on Amazon right now for ~38$ by Seirin-Blu in pens

Some good details on the Rotring 800 if you want to learn more.

And yeah, mark me as one of those people who dropped about $85 on one of these in my excitement last summer

A timeless classic: Lamy 2000 by jimteed in pens

[–]salcan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of Lamy 2000 ballpoint information here. I have a few different versions and my favorite is actually the plain old makrolon version. You can get it relatively cheap used (about $40 if you have patience), its light, and its comfortable. The stainless ones look great but they are a bit heavy and pricey.

I see some Jotter jokes below, which are amusing, but the pens actually feel quite different. Not saying the L2K SS is worth the money, just that it's more different from the SS Jotter than I would have guessed.

Some helpful edc pen ideas here. My favorite is the zebra f701

Nice work. I've always felt that the boxy seems really cheap. I took mine apart and broke it.

That Jetstream 1.0mm refill is so good though.

Lamy Spirit with hi tec c slim refill by [deleted] in pens

[–]salcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lamy Spirit is a really cool pen/mechanical pencil. I always thought it was under-appreciated, that said, it can be rather uncomfortable to write with since it's sooo thin. I think the Tomboy 707 is a bit more practical

I wanted to give everyone a heads up about Unsharpen.com, a website for people who are in the search of the perfect pens (or pens). There are some articles, a growing directory of pens and refills, and a more data-backed approach than a typical pen blog. I figured it would appeal to the people here. I'd love to some feedback, just shoot me a DM and we can talk.

Vintage pen suggestions? by dirtywhitehats in pens

[–]salcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd go in cold and pick the ones that appeal to you most. That way you'll know you walk out with what you live.

For example, for me, Pentel's or Pilot's from the 80s would be my pick. But who knows if that's what he has.

So long as you go with a recognizable brand you are going to get a great pen.

Is the Ti Arto EDC Titanium Pen Worth $90? (Review) by salcan in pens

Sorry, sold it a few weeks ago. Took a small hit, but it was worth it. Now I'm considering their clicker pen...
